"The Ryde Divine"

Whats the deal with this song? Is it an official release? Im listening to it off the "Live 4 Love" bootleg, and its sounds like it was recorded off the soundboard. Unreleased Prince & The NPG track?

Someone help smile

I believe it was released as the B-side of the MPLS single from the "1-800-NEW-FUNK" CD.

Oh wow "MPLS" was released as a single? Does that mean "The Ryde Divine" is officially credited to MPLS as well?

(MPLS is just another P project, right? Like Madhouse?)

The Ryde Dyvine is by The Crayons and it included members of The NPG (Sonny T) and Dr. Mambo's Combo.

According to Days of Wild by The Uptown staff ... it's called The Ride Divine (Explore Your Mind) or "The Ryde Dywine." It was recorded in December 1992 according to an article in Q magazine.

The album is pretty easy to come by, just eBay it.

As for the singles...probably pretty hard to find. I know there was a "Love Sign" Promo CD that was sent to radio stations that is VERY rare... sigh

Um, yes, I have the VHS tape of the 2-part ABC Prince and The NPG concert. The first part was the back-story of the prince album and some of the videos, and the second night was The Ryde Dyvine, a multi-act gig with host Troy Beyer (Sexy MF), and featuring The Crayons ("The Ryde Dyvine"), Carmen Electra ("Everybody Get on Up"), George Clinton and the P-Funk All-Stars ("Let's Get Satisfied / Dope Dog"), Rosie Gaines ("My Tender Heart"), Mavis Staples ("You Will Be Moved") and Prince and The NPG ("Sexy MF/ Love 2 The 9s"), "Damn U", "Eye Wanna Melt With U / 3 Chains of Gold", "The Sacrifice of Victor").

Can anyone else clear this up? Because on "BorisFishpaw"'s post on here:
http://prince.org/msg/7/116322

He says it is by Minneapolis, and as most of you know, he the man when it comes to info....

It is definitely the B-side to MPLS, credited to MPLS. I've never heard of the Crayons, but that doesn't mean they don't exsist and it doesn't mean they didn't record a version of "The ryde divyne", I've just never heard of them.

After some researach on the net, here's a listing of the show on ABC in the US from 19 December 1992.

The Crayons were consisted of Sonny T (Sonny Thompson -- lead singer), Morris Hayes, the lead guitarist (Billy Franze??), who also play for Mr. Mambo's Combo. The Crayons later turned into MPLS.

"The Ryde Dyvine" was played by the Sonny Thompson-led The Crayons on The Ryde Dyvine TV film, broadcast Dec 19, 1992. The Crayons included Morris Hayes and members from Dr. Mambo's Combo. The project later became Minneapolis. "The Ryde Dyvine" is an energetic, uptempo number that invites listeners to explore their mind. The song promote racial harmony through music. The song was later released on a withdrawn cassette single and later a rare CD single, making it "semi-unreleased."

Snap

The song is introduced on the show as being by "The Crayons" which is a pretty cool band name, if ya ask me. Too bad it never stuck.

The track was first heard of The Ryde Dyvine TV special, where it was
credited to The Crayons.

It was later officially released on the very hard to find MPLS CD single
by Minneapolis, which featured 3 tracks...

1. MPLS (4:28)
2. MPLS (12" Mix) (7:00)
3. The Ryde Dyvine (4:17)

the A-side (MPLS) was later also released on the 1-800-NEW-FUNK album,
though strangely the artist and title were swapped round, so the band was
now credited as "MPLS" and track was called "Minneapolis".
