I'm not sure if he's underrated so much as his lead guitar status always overshaddows his other abilities. I'd imagine he's damned good on piano, and that's never talked about....

But, I've seen performances where he totally PWNED the bass. He's amazing really.

Madhouse - 4 is his best bass performance as far as I'm concerned.

"777-9311" - There's a live 93 aftershow clip of him picking the bass up and thrashing that lick. He also plays some of "Hair".

"Partyman" - There's a filmed clip of P in the studio laying down the bass track and he kills it.

"Crystal Ball"

"Sexy Dancer"

Some of the stuff off of "S.O.T.T"

He's definetly stolen licks from Larry, Stanley and Bootsy. I love P's bass playing.

That little clip is probably my favourite. If you've ever tried to play like him you get in this little zone where you get it. When you watching him, like in that clip playing along to himself, you're transported.

I saw the Partyman thing. He was using a black Model C bass right? It didn't sound anytihng like what ended up in the song though. He was basically soloing. But it could be something that ended up on some extended verision I've never heard or somthing.
Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together
