Work It version of Purple Rain (?)

What's the story with this version of Purple Rain?
Sounds like prerecorded synths and drums with Prince doing guitar and vocal elsewhere nearby?
Can't tell if it was a sketch, a rehearsal, a remote truck recording . . .
