Right around the year 1999, Prince asked fans to send their bootlegs of his music back to him. He gave an address for you to send your records/tapes/CDs - no questions asked. I didn't comply, but I'm sure a few people did.
The feeling at the time was that he was rounding up bootlegs and in return would release that same material officially. That too never happened. Anyway, long story short: The Work is one of the reasons I'm still a Prince fan. There's so much on there, it's insane. I have 317 in my "version" (I have up to Version 5 Disc 3, which is in Emancipation era). Do I feel bad owning it? No - I have purchased all of his official material (some if it 2x and 3x over for various formats). If he released this Work material tomorrow, for hundreds of dollars, I would buy it. Until then, this will have to do.

Have you heard both of them? Or is this something you're guessing at? I've heard parts of Work It and wasn't that impressed.

It starts with early prince demos and is very thorough as far as including all known versions. What's not to be impressed with? If you like The Work, you'll love Work It 2.0.

It's the sound I didn't like. Whatever was on Work It that's on The Work is far inferior in sound quality.

Work It 2.0 is supposed to be 'best quality available versions'... I noticed no lapse in sound quality over The Work.

Only volumes 1 through 5 are part of the original Thunderball set. Not sure who did 6 through 9... We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

"The Work Volume 1, 4 CD" means that this volume contains 4 cd's.

Even though I have been into Prince since forever, and not since "Purple Rain". Before "Purple Rain", when the brotha was wearing that Afro..anyhoo, I didn't really feel like a Prince afficionada until I got "The WorK" collection. I mean, to have his music tracks from 1976 ("Leaving for New York") is just too much for me. Yes, I had to pay for them, but it was worth it. Prince might be pissed that his bootlegs are out their, but I can't help it. For me, I can listen to the re-mix of "Alphabet Street"now until foreva..... "A united state of mind will never be divided
The real definition of unity is 1 People can slam their door, disagree and fight it But how U gonna love the Father but not love the Son? United States of Division"

I have finally come to grasps with my youth. As soon as I begin to feel like a true Prince fan someone pulls the cover back over my eyes. I am not familiar with "The Work". Yet I have a strange feeling that the three CDs full of bootlegs my brother "allowed" me to have has something to do with it. He always wants to act like he is GOD and will only reveal some Prince info and music to me when he feels I am "worthy". You people kill me.
I guess it is finally time for me to just steal his hard drive! Frustration has finally set in.

http://prince.org/msg/7/268679 VERY interesting, thanks Jochem! Someone posted these lyrics, and Borisfishpaw said can you spot the errors? This is what I think they might be... This is a Cosmic Dream.... I Look Outside My Window. I see the blue and the green.... There goes a Mermaid Uh Oh! Swimming through the sky, How did she get there Oh My! There's nothing strange, I'm not derranged, I only want every day..... To Be Oh To Be - A Cosmic Day! This is a Cosmic Dream.... I Look Outside My Window. I see the blue and cream There goes a Merman Uh Oh! Swimming through the sky, How did he get there Oh My! There's nothing strange, I'm not derranged, I only want every day..... To Be Oh To Be - One? Cosmic Day! ? ? [Edited 8/2/08 8:30am] I actually think it's this: This is a Cosmic Dream.... I Look Outside My Window. I see the blue and the green There goes a Merman Uh Oh! Swimming in the sky, How did he get there Oh My! There's nothing strange, I'm not derranged, I only want every day..... To Be hard To Be - a Cosmic Day! When played slowly it is still sped-up, somewhat difficult to understand. And sorry guys, no orgnoting, I won't answer any of them
