? about Let's Go Crazy opening lyrics...

Look at the bolded part of these lyrics.

"...
So when u call up that shrink in Beverly Hills
U know the one - Dr Everything'll Be Alright
Instead of asking him how much of your time is left
Ask him how much of your mind, baby
..."

Shouldn't the words time and mind be reversed? Shouldn't it read:

"...Instead of asking how much of your mind is left, ask him how much of your time..."?

Typically, a shrink has to do with the welfare of your mind. You wouldn't typically ask him about how much time you have left until you die---Prince's lyrics would work with the theme of the song better if they were flipped. What do you all think?

My assumption was that the line is all about shallowness in general. The type of people who'd visit Dr Everything'll Be Alright in Beverley Hills would be more concerned about how much the session is costing them and therefore how much time (of that session) was left, rather than getting to the main point of why they're feeling like they are and maybe they should be looking to themselves (Or maybe God*) for an answer rather than paying lots of money to somebody with initials after their name to sort out their woes.

Excellent question...You would assume that a crazy person turning to a Purple Shrink in California...would be worried about how much the analysis would cost...Then again, if you can afford a doctor in Beverly Hills...Everything is alright anyway...
The song is just another way of saying...It's alright to be crazy...as long as you pay by the hour. razz

I agree. That's how I've always seen it.
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

I'm no native speaker, but if u phone a doctor, u don't ask how much time is left of u'r session. Or is calling meant as saying, as in 'call my name'?

See, that WOULD make sense considering the theme/message of the song. However, as I pointed out, the opening lyrics are the reverse of this idea. hence, my question...
