THIEVES IN THE TEMPLE-OVERRATED or UNDERRATED?

I remember a 2months before that song hit the press compared the song as the next WHEN DOVES CRY!!! so, when i finally heard it i was a little bit disappointed with that track. it was alright, but when doves cry? overrated!! sad

It was a crappy single from a so-so album. Graffiti Bridge was like the blue print to Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic, though it did have some true gems (Joy in Repition, We Can Funk, Melody Cool).

But Thieves in the Temple is Prince by-the-numbers. The extended version is pretty good though.

Underrated. I LOVE the extended version. I'd love to see Prince perform this song in concert one day.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I used to like it around the time when I first heard it. But now I don't like it, so don't really care if it's over or underrated.

Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

That's an amazing song from a brilliant album. It's killer.

And yeah, the extended version is genius too. I love the video, too, with his Wolverine muttonchops and hipless tights, Jesus imagery, and funky dance moves.

Plus, I love the opening of the video. "Sexiness to the left of you, sexiness to the right. It's all about the pimp sandwich tonight!"

I do feel it is underrated, however to compare it to "When Doves Cry" that is a huge stretch! That is actually borderline retarded. As far Graffiti Bridge as a whole, well let's just say that album was teetering on retarded. Joy n Repitition and Thieves was its saving grace.

Love it.

Special place in my heart, "Thieves..."

I remember when I first heard the title. I thought, "There he goes again, coming up with some off-the-wall title"...but that's what I used to love about Prince. I used to love reading the titles to his songs before the album came out. The curiousity killed me and filled me with anticipation.

When that song came out, I was going through the worst breakup of my life. It was as if Prince's lyrics were written just for me, so I could get through the pain. Very cathartic, especially the anger and despair in the song.

Not to mention that it sounded different than anything he'd ever done before it.

The extended is one of my favorite compositions period. Definitely right up there with 'Adore' and 'When Doves Cry'

Graffiti Bridge is a very good album. Listen to it again. Sorry to put you through 'Cant Stop This Feeling I Got.' But the rest . . .

I loved the demo version, but the final version(s) weren't as good. Good but the demo one is SO much better. His voice is so good.
