Reeased Versions Vs Unreleased Version. The Winner?

We know our man keeps songs hanging around for years, but do you actually prefer any of the earlier versions, before he tinkered with them?

for me,

Original Old Friends Vs Released Old Friends = Original

Stange Relationship? Released was better.

We can funk? Original was far better.

I can't stop? Released was the best by a mile.

Come? The unreleased "electronic version" spanks the released version.

Tick Tick? Released version any day.

ATWIAD? The unreleased "pop/rock" was way cooler!

Don't get me started!

I agree.

Stange Relationship? Released was better.

I agree.

We can funk? Original was far better.

I agree.

I don't agree, but there is something I do like about the released version. I think Prince's vocals are better on the original, and the horn riff at the end is sublime!

Come? The unreleased "electronic version" spanks the released version.

I don't agree...at all...but I do like the unrealeased version...sometimes...for me though, there's just no touching those horns and vocals on the released version.

Tick Tick? Released version any day.

I really don't care for either one. The unreleased one sounds like Prince never finished it. I guess I'll agree with you here.

ATWIAD? The unreleased "pop/rock" was way cooler!

I'm still not sure about this one. I think within the context of the album, the released was a better opener. But the acoustic pop feel of the unreleased really works too.

Don't get me started!

I'm afraid it's too late for that!!! lol

I must agree with u on these ones also!

Data Bank bootleg is tighter

Alleigance is GRAND DAMN compared 2 Howard Hewitt

Train - unreleased version

Sex Shooter...its a war! I dont know! leaning torward the Vanity one though, but the guitar is a little irritating at times

Manic Monday bootleg is better

Love..Thy Will Be Done...Martika by a notch!

Love Machine, released one!

Chocolate. released one!

The Work, released one

Positivity, released one
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

The unreleased version of "Rebirth of the Flesh" is far superior to the recent download, don't you think?

If memory serves me correctly, without digging out a book, the tracks were (maybe not in the right order)

1. Rebirth of the flesh" (unreleased)
2. Housequake
3. Strange Relationship
4. Feel U up (long stoke version)
5. Good Love (Bright lights version)
6. If I was your girlfriend
7. Shockadelica (12" version)
8. Rock Hard in a funky place

The whole album rocked!!!

Thanks smile I'll be interested to hear the track order if you have the time.. I've got all of these tracks on official releases, except for Rebirth of course..

Wasn't there a test pressing or promotional version of this album? I read about it, but I never found out whether recordings sourced from the actual pressing got into circulation, or if any of the pressings themselves got onto the market. That would make a nice collector's item smile

There was much talk about it making pressing stage, but its not true. If it had, "Rebirth" would have made it out in better quality.

Maybe...one day.

I agree with most of your choices but I prefer the "GB" version of "We Can Funk" as opposed to the 1986 original recording. And yes,the unreleased "electronic" version of "Come" is great! It would have been a huge club hit back in '93 or '94 if he had released it that way.

The correct running order for the 'Camille' album;

side 1:
1. Rebirth Of The Flesh 4:53
2. Housequake 4:38
3. Strange Relationship 4:04
4. Feel U Up 6:31

side 2:
1. Shockadelica 6:12
2. Good Love 5:12
3. If I Was Your Girlfriend 4:54
4. Rockhard In A Funky Place 4:32

Original Old Friends - Original by miles.

Stange Relationship? Released was better.

We can funk? There are too many verisons this for me to judge. The released and one of the earlier versions are better than several of the alternate versions.

I can't stop? Eh, toss up.

Come? Again, this is another one with several alternate versions. I like the version with the line "wrap your legs around my neck" or however it goes.

Tick Tick? Released version

ATWIAD? The unreleased was a little more drum heavy, I think. Anyway I think I prefer the released version. I haven't heard the other in a while.

Old Friends 4 Sale - original version. More personal lyrics and delivery.

Strange Relationship - Released version

We can funk - original version.

Can't stop This Feeling I Got - released version. Though I wish he'd kept the shadowing backing vocals on the chorus, like in the original. Always wished there was an extended version of the Graffiti Bridge version (I just wish that bit at the end where it goes all funky & minor key carried on longer)

Come - The Beautiful Experience remix version. Though I think it would have been even better if he'd retained all the lyrics from the original Ulysses version.

Tick Tick Bang - released version

Around The World In A Day - I prefer the released version

Crystal Ball - original Dream Factory version, with Wendy & Lisa.

Computer Blue - full length version (not totally fair since the released version is just a shortened edit of this version anyway)

Joy In Repetition - original version. Having the song segue (badly) out of We Can Funk ruined it for me. Especially since the proper intro is used in the film! (albeit edited).
