PURPLE RAIN vs. SIGN O'THE TIMES

i love both albums but give the edge 2 PR because of when doves cry, the beautiful ones... i've gone back and forth on this so much. Sign was more electic because of the various styles... nod hmmm

I will go with "Sign 'O' The Times," too...Not because it's longer, Not because I don't Love Purple Rain...It just has something that the teenagers can identify with a little more than the nostalgia of "Purple Rain."

lol Just busting your chops in a friendly, positive way.

Purple Rain is my favorite of the two but only because I have more of a connection to it, not because it's better.

SOTT
"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

Purple Rain: More consistent and better as an 'album', love every single song in there... easy to get into (commercial appeal), really good musically, not as artistic as SOTT but has artistic qualities nonetheless.

Sign O' The Times: Diversity! And lyrically... no one can top it! 'If I Was Your Girlfriend' is THE deepest mainstream song I've ever heard, also daring and challenging! Only flaw I can see in SOTT is that I don't love every track on it...

So in conclusion: Purple Rain... just for the fact that I see both artistry and appeal in it... while Sign O' The Times is a purely artistic venture... but damn I love it too!

Same here. I know SOTT is a great album but it can't hang with PR. PR is just an unreal album. There's nothing on SOTT to compete with When Doves Cry, Computer Blue, or The Beautiful Ones. PR is THE best album of the 80's.
the music knows what your motives are when you are making it

listen to The Replacements - its good for the soul

My thoughts exactly. I Love the SOTT album, but Purple Rain is just....special in my heart. I'm not sure if I will ever Love a song the way I Love "When Doves Cry".

Purple Rain. Thats only cuz I can listen to the whole entire album straight without skipping. There were a lot of good cuts on SOTT, but I have to be in a certain mood to listen to some of them, especially "Play in the Sunshine". Sometimes that song is like nails going down a chalkboard to my ears, and other times its just okay.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Sign O' The Times movie and CD are way better than Purple Rain in my opinion. Purple Rain is good, but the Sign O' The Times movie just plain kicks Purple Rains ass performance wise.
