My favorite album from the first ten years would have to probably be the Dirty Mind album. From the scandalous cover to the raunchy tunes, you get to see and hear how Prince was before the jet rocket runaway commercial sucess of Purple Rain. (Not that Purple Rain wasn't a good album, it is, I just don't go for the big mainstrem album form an artist)

It's a cool album and I love it. biggrin
I love a Man who:
Wears More Make Up Than Me.
Wears Four Inch Stilleto Boots.
Changes His Name To An Unpronouncable Symbol.
Who Changes His Name Back From An Unpronouncable Symbol.
Oh And Most Importantly, Who Is Sexy Little Drop Of Butterscotch

Im pretty sure I love For you (crazy you) through Lovesexy almost equally, but FOR You, 1999, and Purple Rain visit my cd player more ofthan the others. Why? Well, hes incredible and he's the only artist that I never grow old of.....the only other albums I can play over and over from other artist are maxwell's Urban Hang Suite and D'Angelos brown Sugar and Voodoo-never get old-there are a few others but those are the best. If anyone here has not heard of Urban Hang Suite from Maxwell, go buy it immediately, and start making babies! It may be the best album ever written, well after every Prince album ever written!

Easily Sign o the Times ,but that was in his 9th or 10th year of the 10 so it dosen't really count. To me that album is about as far as Prince came to being a God (within a whisker of deification). Dirty Mind is great as a subtle shocker, its brazen adventureness (sorry for my lack of suitable vocab here), and I return to it again and again.

But for me its 1999, it blew everything he had done to that point out of water. 1999 is technically perfect pop, rock, dance, funk and raunch. The songwriting had reached a new maturity and the dry wit of the album showed through, yet it showed Prince could mine the charts yet set his own agenda. He was the captain of the ship and it established him as pop's innovator. It was an album often copied but seldom bettered. 1999 has a raw energy, pulse and urgency that we would never see again even on goliaths like Parade and SOT. It was there but not as raw. Prince really showed his hand here and it was the hand of a master craftsman of raw, sweaty exuberant catchy funk and pop. 1999, Little Red Corvette and Delerious are first class pop cuts, the rest is avant garde experimentalism of the highest order. And then he had the Time and Vanity 6 on the go at the time. Dirty Mind saw Prince the shocker and trendsetter, but 1999 Launched him as the master and the captain of a burgeoning empire.

Parade...
It's just kind of quirky in a way that speaks to me

I love the early albums- dirty mind, contoversy, 1999 cause they make me dance and giggle (some of the songs are definate favorites), but as an album I prefer the eclecticism of Parade
