When did you realize P was flamboyant? Just like not catching on as 11 and 12 year olds that Wendy and Lisa were bi/gay, I bet most of us also didn't understand why everyone besides us thought Prince was a bit weird. I believed that he wore high heels on the basis that he was just pretty damn short. Also, the music scene at the time with all the hair bands and such didn't make the way he dressed seem weird. It wasn't until I backtracked from 84 and saw his look from the Dirty Mind tour in 80-81 that I kinda got what other people were saying. The cover of the Lovesexy Tour program also wasn't a proud moment. The heavy girly makeup was a bit much. When did you start to realize Prince was a bit different?

i realized it when i was 9 years old and i saw a man on tv with a moustache, lip gloss and a marlo thomas flip hairdo playing every instrument at the same time and singing that he wanted to be my mother and my sister too.
it's a difficult image for a child to process.

when I first saw the Little Red Corvette video I knew something was different about Prince, but it really didn't hit home until Purple Rain came out.

Ha-it took me years to see prince through others eyes. I remember the Lovesexy programm too and that was a shock-total different use of makeup. Before that i saw him in a rebellious way but then thought "Oh i see he likes this stuff". That wasn't a problem to me it was just that I could see a bit more how other's saw him. But hey ho there loss

Ummm...the first time I saw him? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Yeah, the first time i saw Prince on tv was when they were on American Bandstand and during "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad", Prince went over and kissed Andre. I was like, "MOM! THIS GUY JUST KISSED THIS OTHER GUY ON TV!" http://www.facebook.com/p...111?ref=ts

I always associated flamboyant with gay and Prince never struck me as gay just artsy/fartsy. I am a total right brain person so that appealed to me. His music was the first thing that made me take notice. I guess his music was 'in your face' or flamboyant but, I loved his inner rebel and appreciated his willingness to be different.

Underneathe the clothes, it was always what Prince was saying from the heart that was supposed to be focused on....
Prince's believe system relies on "Elephants and Flowers." Stripping down to the truth... I knew that Prince was flamboyant when I saw him tread water on the sea of "Purple Rain." "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

Youre sounding as if him being different is a bad thing? The heels the make up e.t.c is what set him apart from alot of artists also his undeniable talent. And he said he wears heels because girls like 'em not because hes short. To many artists play it safe and are 'normal' which makes them..somewhat boring. Him thinking outside the box in his music and in his clothes makes him unique.

it's a difficult image for a child to process. ----- I guess you were the only one the noticed the lip gloss (lol) P just has big lips I noticed he was out there with the Controversy video. The whole thing is just really dark for an RnB artist. However, as I got older and started to check out rock groups I realized that P was not doing anything different than David Bowie or Alice Copper and a lot of other rock acts. He just kept wilding out a lot longer than a lot of other acts.

The cool thing about Prince is that he looks cool in his clothing. The dirty mind era he only wore briefs and he made it work!!! BOB4theFUNK
