Well Santana is not bad.
I once went to a concert of him. He doesn't give such a great show. Most of the time he was standing with his back to the audience. The band was perfect but i got this feeling i like his music better on CD. That was pretty weird because as i said the band was perfect (maybe except for the singer). It was all a bit flavourless.

Why the comparison? If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Prince and Santana are two entirely different artists,so just because you like one doesn't mean you should automatically like the other one.I happen to be a fan of both.

I actually hear ALOT of Santana's influence in Prince's music.Go back and listen to the music Santana made in the 70s,that's the stuff that really inspired Prince.I think that Prince's 'TRC' CD was largely inspired by Santana's 1979 album 'Oneness--Silver Dreams,Golden Reality'.

Prince and Santana are two entirely different artists,so just because you like one doesn't mean you should automatically like the other one.I happen to be a fan of both. Again, I echo your feelings David! Just because we love Prince's music, doesn't mean we're always going to feel *his* personal faves like he does. As an example, I don't understand why he loves Joni Mitchell so much. I tried to listen to her music and couldn't get passed her annoying voice. Personally, I grew up on Salsa music and Hip Hop, so falling in love with Prince music truly opened my ears to other styles of music. I think Prince digs Santana because of his genius in fusing Latin music and Rock music. However, if you just aren't feeling the Latin side, then you probably just won't feel Santana...to each his own...diversity is the spice of life. ~Gi

If you don't know it check out "Europa" by Santana (no, I don't know that because Prince mentions it in WILMHOU).

I'll take a stab at it...it is because Prince is has a stage presence, knows how to entertain a crowd, AND is a great musician.
But imho...he is moving closer to just being on stage and just playing/singing.

Lets just say that standing at the mic, playing your songs in your ordinary voice and your ordinary looks can be just as powerful as humping the speakers while grabbing your leg, lighting your guitar on fire, or raging against the machine antics. "Climb in my fur."

Nowhere did I state that...it just makes for an "entertaining" show, to some. I used "Vegas" to lessen an otherwise long-winded explanation.

LaVisHh said: Santana is unequaled with regards to musicianship I really like Santana. His tone is especially unique and special, but he is guilty of playing a lot of choice licks often. To his credit he tried to be less predictable by stepping out into a jazz vein, but he's come to realization that the rock/pop/funk/Latin thing is really him at his best. test

I don't see Prince as like that at all! His voice is like butter and he's still making great music (TRC, ONA album, not to mention the ONA TOUR!) He's definitely known for his sexuality back in the day, but he's no fluff these days and besides that...he is, was, and always will be one of the most talented artists of all-time! ~Gi

Actually, a lot of Santana's songs were really really terrible. He's a fucking incredible guitarist though.
