Does anybody know why Prince is so fond of the color purple? ...I'm just curious.

Purple is a color of Royalty. It's an amazing color and I think that He has more than earned his right 2 be whatever he wants to b. I think it fits him perfectly. 4-ever.

I think it might have had something to do with Jimi Hendrix. It's a fact that he described his music in terms of colors. Of course, that might have been the fact he used psychedelic drugs and all that. ...Hendrix was a fan of purple too -and he dressed all ornate and regal. If I'm not mistaken the first reference to Prince's affinity for the color Purple was on the 1999 album ("D.M.S.R." - "now you can all take a bite of my purple rock"). Anything earlier than that?

Also, anyone ever notice the "And The Revolution" in small print on the 1999 cover? That was their first reference I believe.

In modern times, purple is often associated with homosexuality.

Certain shades of purple are wonderful to be around..It is a deep and soothing color. Prince looks nice wearing this color.

Prince said his favorite color was 'Banana Yellow' back in 1986, I've never heard him say Purple was his favorite color.

Purple is associated with Kings and Queens in the sens of Royalty. Because the method of producing blue dye was scarce in the early centuries, only the wealthiest of people could afford to wear it.

Not to mention it's the prettiest of the birthstones -- Amethyst.

Purple is also associated with the Crown Chakra, not that I think Prince was thinking in those terms, but it's associated with spiritual development, another theme of Prince's life.
