25 and 9 months, but what's your point anyway? Does it matter whether someone is 24, 25 or 26? No offense but die-hard Prince fans between the ages of 18 - 25 usually have a tainted view of Prince's music pre-Purple Rain and how it fit among the other prominent music of the time before drum machines and technology dominated. Most of you were still wet behind the ears before you could understand the cohesive quality of a Prince album. You're a part of the Pre Generation X gang. When you finally got a copy of Moonbeam Levels, there was probably some lyric in it that prevented you from committing suicide or shooting up somebody at school. (When I'm refering to "you" I don't mean you personally, I just mean the majority of people in that age group) And you may simple prefer Moonbeam Levels over Free. That's great. But GROWN folks who know both songs would choose Free. Yeah! "Climb in my fur."

Im 20
I chose Free I didnt like the song at first, then i heard it all the way, and the piano break at the end left me at tears. Moonbeam Levels had got 2 much hype from fans and Per Nilsen, over rated as: saying that it was "one of the best" ha ha, don't think so. I could live without that one. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

The screams are killer. Chants are wonderful. Kinda reminds me of The Ladder in a sense Straight Jacket Funk Affair

But as someone stated before, "Free" fits better on the 1999 album. Moonbeam Levels with that guitar feedback sounds like a hybrid between the 1999 sound and some of the Purple Rain song. I agree with this. I like Moonbeam Levels better as a song also. But, I don't think it would flow with the rest of the 1999 album. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'll play it first and tell you what it is later. -Miles Davis-

Nice flame bait there, old fart. I agree that Free might fit a little better on the album (although I think neither fit that well), but I still prefer Moonbeam Levels. It rocks a little harder and it's more catchy. Better guitar-work too. Free isn't bad, it's just not as good. Anyway, I'm 23, so I have no idea what good music is when it comes to Prince apparently.

I personally think that "Free" is, if not his greatest, one of his greatest songs EVER! NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Second not only are you short-sited and obtuse, but you are also obviously an idiot I am over 25 and love Moonbeam Levels. That's my opinion. It has nothing to do with how old/young I am. I ALSO DO NOT RIP OTHERS FOR LIKING A SONG OR PUT THEM DOWN AS BEING YOUNG, OR IGNORANT FOR NOT AGREEING WITH ME LIKE YOU. It must be nice sitting on your throne How sad.
