will prince ever do an indepth interview?

I'm guessing not....
But I was watching an interview of Jerry Seinfeld by an Australian interviewer, Andrew Denton (his show is called enough rope)...
this guy is one of those rare interviewers, who treats it as a true craft. He does an incredible amount of research, so his questions are intelligent and bring alot out of the subject. He will also use novel ways to make the subject feel comfortable or encourage them to talk.

He as good as (if not better than) Parkinson (UK). Parkinson has slipped in the later years, although he used to be great and his reputation has carried him through.

A Prince interview with Andrew Denton would be so good. If anyone was able to do it, this is the guy... but I'm not sure that either would agree to it.

The show is named 'enough rope' in fun, but there is an element of asking tough questions and getting information that they weren't planning on.

Denton may find it a challenge... but may decode it would be pointless. prince may be able to handle tougher questions with age... or he may take an intense dislike to denton and give one word answers etc.

I have noticed that Prince does tend to get asked stupid questions, in that the interviewers don't seem well researched....
I heard Larry King suggest that he wasn't spiritual in his early years and that he was 1999 was this big turn around. Prince looked a little pissed (understandably I think). I have also heard multiple people ask him how many instruments he plays... We all know he plays alot of instruments...( i would love to know if he plays any horns or wind instruments though)

Denton would go into that interview having studies the lyrics to all Prince's songs, read all the biographies, have an indepth understanding of the JW religion, the music industry and copyright law. he would know his influences and side projects and ask more probing questions about them.

I would love to see an indepth interview. I read the transcript of the oprah thing, and she irritated me just reading it. I think now would be a great time in Prince's career to do another, with a really good interviewer

his interview with tavis smiley was very long and quite in depth iirc
it's been a long time since i've seen it but i remember thinking that
was a good one.

the way oprah treated prince and kept saying he was pretty and those
stupid questions she kept asking was just horrible. that could have
been an excellent interview since prince was opening up a lot during
that period.

imagine a docusoap/fly on wall - of course it would never happen, but it would be completely facinating 2 see him focus on something, anything close 2 his heart

Prince may do an in-depth composition...when he breaks away from the shyness...I do believe that if Prince wants the world to have the truth..Without the possibility of questions out of order, and the follow up questions that can lead an interview astray, Prince may want to write it himself. cool

ever see the Oprah or Vibe interviews? also the Chris Rock VH1 interview, the one with Mel B., then Tavis Smiley, Larry King Live, and to some extent Jay Leno...

I haven't seen all of the chris rock interview. from what I've seen it looks interesting, but the others you mentioned were more for promotional purposes and the oprah thing was awful (she is always awful, making everything about her allll the time). The mel B thing was cute, but that's abut it. The Larry King interview was almost offensive.

I think interviewing is really is a craft, and most interviewers treat it as light entertainment. Denton is a craftsmen.

I think prince was great in that interview, but i thought larry king asked a few dumb questions (about Prince's spirituality for instance), that showed he wasn't well researched.

ok... so I've just heard the greatest interview.
radio interview with mojo in detroit.. it must have been after the cobo hall performance. My love has just reached a new level... he's so cute, and funny, and excited and completely lovable.
I had read a transcript, but it missed lots of stuff

and just the fact of this interview, where he just called in because he heard automatic on the radio after the gig, so decided to call.

This is the sort of interview I would love to see today... but since I have now heard this.. I'll live without it

I also have revised my opinion about the melB interview... it's nice, not quite Andrew Denton (I love him) standard, but definately worthwhile

I tihnk Prince's appeal to the general public and even hardcore fans like ourselves is, we don't know anything about him, except that he is a great artist. And that's really the way it should be with all artists. And I'm sure that's how he wants it
Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

bow Andrew Denton bow

I think he would do a fantastic interview with Prince although Prince these days is just "scriptures this, bible that" so who knows?

Blame Prince for that. I though King's questions were totally legit and normal. But Prince had to be weird and answer them weirdly.

Yay!!! i found one...
Denton would be able to treat this with the respect/understanding and intelligence and then get him to move on.. the man is an artist, and has done plenty of difficult interviews... The man got Hugh jackman to talk about the time he wet his pants an stage (although, he wasn't too resistant to dicuss that, so props to hugh too)

a good interviewer (like denton) would never blame their subject.. it's their job to make them feel comfortable and talk and ask questions based on a little research

I agree... well sort of. i would still watch one and love it...
also, he's older now, is the mystery thing still important?... he has a legacy to pass down and young musicians to inspire. I love hearing musicians talk about their craft, I'd like to hear prince talk about it

Which is what he did in the mojo interview and why i loved it..

he said something about the music coming to him when he brushed his teeth... that the brush would vibrate and he would have to run off to the recording studio. He made an analogy about a song being like a woman, and when it was finished she's say "hello' and then there was something else he said about an orange... i mean it was great!
