A lot of things do not run on windows Vista. I had a great photo editor and not only was the CD shipped with a virus, but it will not run at all on Vista and it was buggy on XP. I am sure Windows 7 will 'fix' that. (do I have to say [/sarcasm]
There may be some windows 3.1 emulators for vista.

i've been to mac and i went back. i like mac just fine, but i think i'm just kind of a lowbrow populist when it comes to technology. PC does what i need it to do and i can get a laptop for cheap. the end.

I have had fewer errors or glitches with vista OS than any Windows operating system, though it does admittedly have some errors with backwards compatibility in certain programs... Problem is, a lot of people's PCs come preloaded with tons of crap they don't need and they don't clean it up, leading to future problems. First thing I did was remove all the unnecessary software, trial programs, virus scanners and whatnot, installed my own proper "clean" software, and now it runs smooth as a baby's bottom. It does hog a lot of resources, but caches them when the system's actual resources are required. Did have a couple control panel errors early on, but updates have wiped those out. Vista wins for me now, IMO. And Mac... Too expensive, limited customization and upgrading, and too inflexible when it comes to using competing/rival software. But oh yeah, they sure are stylish and pretty. What a slick machine. Not boxy or cumbersome like a PC, so you know they're good. "Knowledge is preferable to ignorance. Don't feel bad. Mine won't work on my computer now either. But it makes a good conversation piece....or a shiny paper weight! Just like my bottle of Get Wild cologne....paper weight or if I have company over and when it's time 4 them 2 leave, i'll spray some around the room til they leave. Yeah....that's wrong of me but it works!

I have not found anyone who has yet got it to work on Vista. There is a work around for Windows XP but it does not work for Vista. Sorry.

I went to Mac and went back. It was the ultimate style over substance. I do HD video editting. Final cut pro couldn't handle the rendering (and HD file types) anywhere near as well as Adobe Premiere on a well spec'd PC. And the PC was about a third of the price on pound for pound processing. So much for Macs being best for video (Just ask Lucasfilm, PC's throughout). As for Vista. I haven't had a fault with it yet, 18 months in. .
