Kiss as covered by Señor Coconut & His Orchestra

Anyone heard this on iTunes?

It's different, i'll give it that.

I'd take it over Tom Jones any day but perhaps not as good as Age Of Chance's interpretation. =)

TT.

you see this is what i mean!

Princes lack of activity and banning stuff from youtube and everywhere has led to threads like this.

This is the third 'cover' thread ive seen today.

Generally speaking I hate covers and its a shame prince doesnt leave his material more accessible so the uninitiated can compare the two and indeed relise tht it IS a cover not an original.

I'm not sure I quite understand your point.

my point is what i said,

I dont like covers and with prince banning sound and images of his own performances on the net, people are less likely to realise that the cover they have just heard is in fact a cover.

Many many people think Tom Jones' version of kiss is the original.

the same as some people on youtube think Cybdi Laupers cover of 'when you were mine' is her own. People also think I feel for you is Chakas.

By not allowing his material to be accessible to all via the net Prince is downsizing his audience and his own history of music making.

This means that people may not have heard the true original which is a shame.

I dont understand why people do covers. I know its cos they like it or something but really - why? cant they write for themselves?

Well I think your argument is flawed. Bands would do covers whether P is releasing new material or not. In fact, commercially-speaking, the more popular and current an artist, the more likely they are to be covered.

Covers that just ape the original are frankly a waste of time, I agree with you there. But every now and agin someone comes along with a version that can bring something new to the table. Not necessarily better, but different. Senor Coconut, whoever he is, has done something different. Tom Jones didn't. And I was serious about the Age Of Chance too.

As for the general public not knowing who wrote the original. Well, thats more to do with ignorance and poor taste than P banning his image. There's a lot of thick people out there. Not worth worrying about, frankly.
