"Standing at the Altar"

This has to be one the best songs that P has written for a female to sing. I played this song about 8 times on Saturday and could not get enough of it. I then started thinking..."some girl group needs to re-do this OR someone like Mariah or Leona Lewis should redo this for a soundtrack or b-side".

What do u guys think?

This is one of my fav songs from the 1-800...new funk album!
2gether with Hollywood and Lovesign this was the song I played most.

Would be nice 2 see it covered by a new artist.

It's very slick and commercial. Like a lot of tracks for the protege acts, if only they'd been given some promotion, any promotion! lol

I know. It's very sad.

I do remember hearing this song being used during a Miss USA pagent (or something like that). It was around the 94 or 95.

I haven't heard this song...and I'm sure it is wonderful...What is the song about? Is it happy or sad?

It was the number one song daily for 2 weeks on a radio show here in N.Z. back in '94 - pity it was never released as a proper single, it could've been huge.

Loved the whole unreleased M.C. Flash album, too, when I finally heard it years later...

It's a pretty sad song...and it's pretty much about what the title would suggest, a woman getting ditched on her wedding day.

Absolutely awesome song imo, easily the best one off of 1-800-New Funk.

i love this track. for some weird reason i've always thought it
might be a reworked idea of something he wrote for martika.

but it's probably from later since it's got that arabian sitar
vibe on it kinda like 7 and however much u want.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I've always loved this song. Great vocals, great organ solo from Mr Hayes

Thank u for responding because based on the title, I didn't know if someone was left at the altar, or if it was a song about a spiritual offering...I hope to hear the song one day.

i was lucky 2 have seen the video 4 it at least once. margie cox aka tamara and the seen is a great vocalist.
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

The video was good (for Prince's standards in the mid-90s). I remember seeing it on HQ before the videos were taken down. Margie is a great vocalist.
