never I said that I read that he stated he could along time ago back in the 80's. We arent crazy either. So much for ones opinion.

I know people pre-internet were more gullible to news stories and PR spin, but dayum!

Yes he has played Saxophone in his early years, but Prince ain't the modest of individuals - if he did I'm sure we would have known about it sans the rumoured anal horn he plays on "Tick Tick Bang" around 2:46... someone confirm?! disbelief

All I found on Tick Tick Bang was this on this site: http://www.answers.com/to...ertainment
It has sax but Candy Dulfer played it(sax) on the album(or she is listed). I search these keywords "instruments on graffiti bridge album"( I know I prolly mispelled it cause im tired sorry) but click on the right spelling it brings up (some isnt even related to it) lol.

I wasnt gullible hate to say my own mother bought me the book about Prince when I was around 14. I remember reading the part where it said he could play instruments he just didnt like the tuba it wasn this favorite at all. I guess it had somethingto do with the fact it sounded liek someone was killing a moose lol ( I still think the same when I hear a tuba being played makes me wanna cover my ears OUCHIE!lol)

I think the reason why doesn't play brass is he couldn't perfect it as he did to all of his instrument? shrug

I mean, we know the dude WANTS to play the damn thing lol but I wouldn't think he would want to play something he's not so good at. A trait from the dark side of perfectionism I guess nod

nod I agree. I'm sure he has dabbled with brass/wind instruments but Prince probably wouldn't invest time in something unless he could be really good at it.
He is certainly not one to display any signs of mediocrity.

This is a very similar to a thread i started some time ago, as I heard this fabled "he can play every instrument under the sun" type claim.

Essentially it boils down to the guy being able to play 3 instruments as far as i can tell, guitar, drums and keyboard. And if you wanted to sub categorize you might want to say that he can play bass guitar as well, as I guess that is a different enough skill in itself from a normal 6 string guitar to justify the mention.

Everything else just seems to be egotistical garnish, to make the guy seem more accomplished than he is. i reckon if prince had the skills and know how to be any good at sax and brass (trumpet / trombone ) we would have been hearing it in his earlier records a lot sooner than sign of the times.

oh and of course there's always the people out there that say, ah but he can sing too, that's another instrument. No it isn't singing isn't an instrument; that's just what singer's say to make themselves seem more musically accomplished.

hehe, when I said "Anal Horn", what I meant was that, there was a rumour that someone farts in the background around that particular point in time as a bit of a joke! falloff

I agree with everything you said except that last part. Singing is very much like playing an instrument (which is why some people can do it, and some people can't). Singing is compressed air, coming up from the diaphragm, being manipulated through the vocal cords, throat, and mouth, much in the same way the saxophone produces music. In fact, many professional musicians have stated that the sax most closely matches the human voice. The human voice is absolutely an instrument. Try telling Bobby McFerrin, Doug E. Fresh, or the guy from "Police Academy" it's not.
