Mention of "Purple Rain" in 8-Mile movie review

http://www.accessatlanta....8mile.html

From the AJC Newspaper:

paragraph of interest:

Glazer has hired a real director, Curtis Hanson ("L.A. Confidential"). He's gotten a bona-fide Oscar winner (Basinger) to shout, "I won at Bingo!" And someone -- Curtis, Glazer, the star himself -- has cleverly lifted a tactic from Prince's "Purple Rain": You play your ace card at the end so people walk out juiced. Prince grafted a 20-minute concert to the end of his movie. Eminem goes with a spectacular rap show that's impressive whether or not you like him, the genre or "8 Mile."

Yet another mention, this time by Mr. Ebert from the Chicago Sun-Times:

http://www.suntimes.com/o...le08f.html

We are hardly started in "8 Mile," and already we see that this movie stands aside from routine debut films by pop stars. It stands aside from Britney Spears and the Spice Girls and the other hit machines who have unwisely tried to transfer musical ability into acting careers. Like Prince's "Purple Rain," it is the real thing. Eminem insists on Rabbit's proletarian roots, on his slattern mother, on his lonely progress as a white boy in a black world.

I've made the comparison too. Like the scene where Eminem is backstage thinking the crowd is booing him until his girl says that they are cheering. I think they used PR as a template.

Well now, I kinda thought 8-Mile was more like the music video for Vanilla Ice - Ninja Rap which I own on VHS and watch a lot... It's just so incredibly bad, it has no chance to succeed in my world because Eminem is such a joke to me. Whenever people talk about him I get sickly ill and need to stay in bed for weeks watching troll 2 and drinking diet nestea.
Personally . I think we are all Boring with No Lives cause all we do is talk about Prince,Criticize and Gossip. I need a Horny Man is what I Need and probably so do most of yas. We are Sexually Frustrated what we R... Amen..!!! - zelaire

I remember Eminem saying on Access Hollywood months ago that the film was going to be a hip-hop version of Purple Rain and from the promos I've seen, it certainly looks like it, especially in the end of the ad when the guy says You're on or something like it and Eminem stares at the wall while the crowd cheers. Very Purple Rainish to me.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I just got back from 8 Mile and I saw many similarities with Purple Rain...Even visually I felt Purple flowing. I just wished the end had a big ending like PR's finale...The ending is cool but many others in the theater felt like there should have been something more at the end...All in all not a bad movie...
