when it was first released i loved it to bits but for the last
10 years i've listened to it maybe just once in total. there are a few songs i can still listen to, like god created woman and seven but for the most part i cringe at all of them. just like diamonds and pearls this album was an immediate hit with user friendly songs but it didn't have any staying power imo. 80% of it is based on current trents of the time and the inclusion of the rapping with that makes it very dated. it's probably one of the albums that would benefit most from a newly recorded remaster with prince re-producing the songs with an up to date more timeless sound. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Almost every single Prince album is in dire need of remastering.
Having said that, the Symbol album is awesome and it still kicks by ass today!!

I still hear 7 on the radio ... it was an instant classic. I don't think 80% of it was based on current trends, but I agree some of it was. Especially the My Name Is Prince rap segment or his flannel cutoff shirt in The Morning Papers video (trying to cash in on some grunge . . .)

Yep, the album seemed electric when it first appeared, but over time it's dated very badly.
Tony M doesn't help (yo, Bay-Bee! ), but the whole 'boombastic' thing that populates a large portion of it just grates. Which is a shame, cos an album with Sexy MF, 7, And God Created Woman, Damn U and The Morning Papers on it should be remembered as a classic. And, as I say every time this subject comes up, it's still odd that it's the only album that Prince has officially put-down on his own website (that comment in the NPGMC Library some years back).
