Seriously I think Price missed a great opportunity on this one. As much as he loves his guitar & as much as he's underrated as a guitarist... why wouldn't he put the best guitar solo ever on a song called guitar. wtf?

I agree.....

There are so many remix's to Prince songs that I've never heard...Or live versions that vary...Prince can squeeze a guitar solo into any song. Although...I do agree with what u are saying about a song called, "Guitar." I didn't personally expect the song be any more than it is...however, the song not exaggerating Prince's guitar leadership...makes you feel ike it's a double-wide trailor with the word, "Castle," written on it.

I think "Guitar" is what Prince wanted it to be: a snapshot of Prince's soloing style at that moment -- full of Hendrix nods and little else. As a song, it makes reference to him as an icon and the instrument his most associated with. And, it was a short, gimmicky tune to shill out to VerizonWireless... probably made him a lot of money.

But, yeah, assessed alone as a song with strong lyrics and musicianship, it falls flat.

The song is great but it fades out right at the point where a brilliant solo could have gone. He's done some excellent ones live, but I want an extended jam on record.

You know I'm exaggerating with my previous comment...I really do wonder why a guitar solo isn't there...and it crossed my mind, how Prince could take 6 or 7 familiar guitar solo's from older songs, and put the medly into, "Guitar" back to back...Only if Prince wanted 2, not because of a loose suggestion from the grape gallery.
