Oh, about the covers. The eight covers are all past covers. So Prince's cover is from 2004. The others are:

Muhammad Ali - 1971
Marvin Gaye - 1970
Samuel Jackson - 1998
Jay-Z - 2004
Barack Obama - 2008
Denzel Washington - 1995
Billy Dee Williams - 1972

Also, there is a note about the covers and how they selected who made them as well as the three-month process of culling a list of 25 out of more than 80 prospects. From the magazine...

"Over the past three months and nearly a dozen meetings and discussions, the editors of Ebony sought to identify the 25 Coolest Black Men of our time. We scoured the archives, polled the staff and identified more than 80 names of Brothers who we thought, in their prime, might qualify.

Prince. Of course. Barack Obama? Yeah, sure. Morris Day? Almost, but not quite."


I thought it was funny and ironic that Prince and Morris were mentioned in this little blurb.
