You should check out Blackguitaristz article on Prince opening for the Rolling Stones, http://ccoshea19.googlepages.com/ it's really interesting and he talks about Keith Richards on there!

I remember an interview with Keith in Rolling Stone mag in the late 80s where he pretty much said he did not like Prince or Michael Jackson.
the music knows what your motives are when you are making it

listen to The Replacements - its good for the soul

Keith is probably the only Rolling Stone who openly speaks negatively about Prince. The others seem to respect him a lot and praise him most of the time, especially Mick Jagger. And Ron Wood has joined him on stage a couple of times.

Keef Richards---I recall an interview from the late 80s where he dismissed Prince, saying "Prince is the Monkees of this generation" ...

Dismissed?

I thought love was only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else but not for me.
Love was out to get me
That's the way it seemed.
Disappointment haunted all my dreams.

Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind.
I'm in love, I'm a believer!
I couldn't leave her if I tried.

I thought love was more or less a given thing,
Seems the more I gave the less I got.
What's the use in tryin'?
All you get is pain.
When I needed sunshine I got rain.

Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind.
I'm in love, I'm a believer!
I couldn't leave her if I tried.

True.

And of course he was/is jealous: I mean, the man hasn't played a decent guitar solo in 64 years.

Because he's the rhythm guitarist.

Keef is a genius songwriter and a great guitarist.
Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

Let's think about where Prince was in the late 80s. Batdance, Alphabet Street, "Don't buy the Black Album, I'm sorry" - he just totally lost his cool. Not to mention the dumb stuff the band had to wear during the Lovesexy tour. The promo pix of the band outside of Paisley and the stadium say it all.

Keith was right on the money.

Check out the live album Get yer Ya Ya's Out. Almost all solo's are Keith Richards (some Mick Taylor). So it has to be over 40 years smile

Yes let's think where Prince was in the late 80s:
regarded the best musician, producer, composer of his time (the critics - for sure in Europe - loved Lovesexy and Batman, an album with just samples when sampling was still new and linked to rap and house-music);
often compared with many great musicians of the past (even Mozart!) for the genius of his arrangements;
the biggest sell out tour until that moment in Europe (Lovesexy);
one of the best selling artist of '89 thanks to Batman album.

Yes Prince was absolutely nowhere in the late 80s... mainly because he made his band wear funny clothes... sure

Great band- yes, genius- no. He's made a career out of ripping off every Bo Diddley, Robert Johnson and Chuck Berry riff.

Sorry but people think pretty highly of "Lovesexy Era and I do not care what any of one thinks "The Batman soundtrack" fits the film. P was hired to do music for a movie and he actully did a decent job.

I know Keith has used a lot of drugs so I expect him to make stupid statements.

I think Keith Richards was missing the point.

Here is a man who takes himself far too seriously and I could see why he would hate Lovesexy.

He is boring and his music in mediocre and blah, blah, blah.

I don't much care for the Rolling Stones they fit the stereotypical rockstar image of sex, drugs and rock and roll but they hace very little depth or integrity.

Which lets face it is what most of the music industry is made up of.

They come across as superficial and shallow in my opinion.
Shut up already, damn.
