Whats next for Prince?

Is he gonna continue churning out average albums year after year? Or is he gonna break out for 4- 5 years and then comeback and do something worthwhile again?

Don't get me wrong, he has nothing left to prove, and his body of work is amazing, but face it, he is irrelvant now, and has been since "rainbow children".

Once you been in the game as long as he has, of course your gonna lose your passion and creativity. Its inevitable. Just wish he would really look and wonder is it worth doing these poor albums over and over again?

What would you like Prince to do next?

I find it peculiar that you think that Prince has been irrelevant since The Rainbow Children when that album sold about 1/5th of the albums his last three sold.

You may not think they were great albums, but somebody was buying them!!! Saying he's irrelevant after probably the 2nd most successful period of his career is a little unfair!!!

I do think that after Planet Earth, he needs some time off. I think that's what he's doing beside playing the occasional show. I think he'll take some time off, and maybe put out an album at the end of this year.

I wouldn't be suprised if he didn't put out anything 'til '09.

Wasn't that just an issue of promotion?

TRC had practically no promotion at all, where as Musicology and 3121 were supported by videos, singles and high-profile TV appearances.

I don't think Prince is irrelevant, you see it in reviews of his albums where the reviewer is still hankering for that fulfillment of potential. He can push out a 3 out of 5 stars album any time it seems, but I think people still believe he has another great album left in him, he just needs a push to make it.

His arrogence is his own worst enemy at times. Like when I read he supposedly cranked out the "rave" album in a week, and expected it to be a huge hit. Yeah right Prince, even the title sucked, let alone the music.

Making an album in a week that is good may of been possible for him in the 80's, but that sorta talent never lasts forever. I just hope Prince knows his limits and perhaps his best days are behind him. Concentrate on settling down, living, scoring movies, whatever, then take a year or so and do an album properly.

If Prince is so irrelevant, then why should we or anyone else care about what his next move is? It's so arrogant to think that Prince or anyone else in music is irrelevent. That word is used way too much with a lot of entertainers these days.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Well I dont care really, just wondering what next? Just a casual question. I dont expect him to crank out "1999" everytime, and he will probably never do anything as good as that again, and Iam not fussed about that, but he can do better then churning out rather lifeless, mediocre albums though. Or at least collab with someone.

This is the initial question of a thread that's meant to provoke discussions. That's why. If you find it provocative/puzzling, etc., that's great!

If Prince is so irrelvant now then why are you concern with what he is going to do next? I don't believe he lost his passion or creativity. He would have left the music industry a long time ago if that's the case. Prince should follow his path. What should he do next? Follow his own path.Their are many different things he can do. I don't know what Prince is going to do next but I know Prince is going to do his thing no matter what. People will love it or hate it.

Blah blah blah, Prince should do what Prince wants, well yeah, thats kinda speaks for itself. I just want to know what do you think Prince should do? Not a hard question.

What about talk show host? You know how facinating he is in interviews lol

He could wear a mask the whole time during his show, like when he did in that interview in the UK around NPG's "exodus" album LOL

Frist I don't know why you are going blah, blah, blah and having a attitude to someome who is responding to your thead. I think it is very rude. You didn't answer my question but whatever. Not that hard of a question. I would love Prince to compose music for a film, do a documentry, and do voice over work for a animated film.
Artists usually follow their own path. I love guessing what Prince is going to do next. It's fun and interesting. Prince has one of the most interesting journey in music history. At the end of the day people will follow their own path.

I do not believe that aging artist's lose their passion. That may be the case for some people...I am one to believe that an artist's work becomes more intense...even if age brings longer intervals between projects.

I have to say this again...I do believe that at some point in Prince's career, he may choose to release something quiet. I will always love the "Whole Band" concept...however, I would love to hear Prince solo...singing to his acoustic guitar alone.

Maybe Prince could do a cd with a band....and include, the same songs with Prince alone on the guitar or the piano. "The raw and the dressed" kind of thing. rose

What he should do next to be relevant again is reunite with The Revolution and get a real producer for the album. This would be big news and it would probably go a long way in getting Prince's creative juices flowing. I know it still wouldn't be as great as his vintage 80-87 material but I bet it would be better than any of his 90s or 00s subpar crap.

An album and tour with The Revolution would garner huge worldwide headlines. They'd sell out huge places everywhere in the world. And it should be The Revolution (not the expanded Revolution with Eric Leeds and Atlanta Bliss and Matt Blistan).

What he SHOULD do next is record a killer, tight album of original songs, all recorded live in Aftershow-style settings.

What he probably WILL do next is sue some more of his fans.

Without a doubt he needs to do a tour, will we ever get to see him in concert again? Haven't managed to see him in concert in years and was one of the 55,000 hyped about seeing him in Dublin, he needs to do one last tour for all his supporters all over the world, this is the time for him to do it.

its hard to know what prince'll do as his mind set changes sso frequently i watched an interview the other day and he was asked, whats the best way to deal with bootlegs, and he replied to release them how u want them to sound, or something like that, i thought oooook lol, prince is great what ever he does, personally i think he'll proberly release an new album next year at the earliest seeing as hes got the 21 nights stuff coming out in september, may be there be more boots who know, it was speculated that he may do a mini tour to support the release, but i doubt it, i dont think it'll need much promotion in that way cause it has last years concert for that sort of support, but it would be nice any way, i hope he puts his site back up im missing those jams of the week it seemed like he was getting connected with his fans again, whats next??? who knows

I don't think it would be such hot news and I think that would LOOK depressing. There's Prince at the front all coiffed and svelt as usual, and there's everyone else behind all wrinkled, balding and middle-age spreads squeezed into sparkly paisley suits.
