To answer the question, I would do nothing. I'm still a fan of the music and nothing Prince does, for the most part, will make me change my mind, even if he asks me to stop being a fan. You can't make someone give up their memories and years of something that has brought tremendous value into a persons life and I hope Prince isn't too far off the deep end to realize that. Time will tell.

Difficult point.... it´s so complicated to STOP the fans when the icon is one of the best artist we have still live, and he based his musical trayectory about seduction to the people any cost

I would comply with his wishes. I would always have fond memories of the music and of my childhood. Running out to a record store to get the latest Prince single as a 12" extended version with a killer B-side was then and will always be one of the best experiences of my life.

I would just hope he would not ask us to stop listenning to his music. That would be very sad to have to do.

This would b the 1st time I'd disagree with Prince.I CAN'T stop being a fan.

Well, I'd still listen to whatever music that I purchased from his collection. However, he will always be a music genius and remembered for how he was part of a musical revolution.

If he chose to stop performing, touring and just wants to live his life privately without being honored by fans or websites, I would respect that. But hasn't he already requested that from non-official Prince websites already? For none to be created or honored in his name or the like discussing him? Like here, princefams.com and HQ and others, but yet they still exist? Even though they're all just unofficial fan communities where fans discuss his music, private life, spread rumors, etc.,? .. Just saying.

I doubt Prince would make a request, though he has made some weird ones in the past. I think if he wants to bow out or be super reclusive, he should simply do it. Either with no fan fare or bow out with a "final" album/statement or something. I sort of think to an extent he is a recluse, but has this urge to get his music out there, which he'll always be making, so I think that goes against the recluse thing. He also seems to still be trying to prove to the world that he is a force to be reckoned with...like he doesn't own and simply embrace his geniusness and simply do what he wants.

I think what he wants is to be able to simply make music, put it out there and see the flocks come and get it...without having to do all the tricks and jumping through hoops. The thing is he CAN do so if he wished, but I think he wishes his fan base was bigger so the options that he has, he feels are limited. I also don't think he realized that the technology he was pushing would bite him on the butt as much as it did...and I am refering to the whole mp3 disposability and that mp3s forster a culture of listening to certain songs and not whole albums. I am sure it's frustrating to see that people have only downloaded the songs that they have heard and not the whole new album he just put out. Then again it's his fault for going the public music route and not really cultivating his website, as I feel it was the strongest vehicle he had to get his music out there to the masses.

A theory I have is that he may go recluse without any regard to new music or reissues and everything will start to be collectable and rare, which I suppose has a cool quality to it for the artist, but really sucks for the fans. But then again we know that Prince really hates his fans and we love him for that.

i think there are a handful of celebrities who have turned their backs on fame and really taken "the normal life" seriously, and have been embraced as part of a "normal" community. i don't think fame has to be a lifelong affliction unless there are aspects of it the person does not want to give up. i guess it's just like any other addiction.

This is a guy who practically gets carried around like a baby and burped and fed.
