What is Prince's best guitar solo?

I vote for "When Doves Cry" but I do wish they had put the solo a bit higher in the mix.

THAT'S why, Linn, perhaps you should have stated "Favorite" as opposed to "Best".

I like the little licks scattered across Lovesexy. Simple little bluesy fills. I like the solo from SexyMF. Simple yet effective. Not in the same league comparatively as something like the solo from Hello though.

He's not really known within guitar circles for his solos, more his playing in general. Yes he can solo but nothing leaps out to me like, say, Comfortably Numb. Now that's a solo! A song in itself.

As I guitarist I prefer his funk fills. That's where he shines. Understated and so utterly perfect. Who on the planet could fail to recognise the opening bar of Kiss?

How about You Got the Look for a solo though. It must be ok as I can sing/hum it. I only ever do that with solos that stand out from a song.

"Best" and "Favorite" are both subjective, black.

Being a black guitarist, what's your favorite or best (your choice) Prince solo?

Oh like being a "black guitarist" gives me an advantage on what's Prince's "best" solo is...(perhaps it does, who knows huh?) My "favorite" Prince guitar lead hands down is "God" Love Theme From Purple Rain". I think Prince's solo to Purple Rain has been for many years now, his signiture solo. I did a thread on here very shortly after I joined this place about Prince's guitar solo in Purple Rain and what I thought it represented. Or at least what it represented to me.

Oh and Linn, I see you mentioned When Dove Cry. I also did a thread, again, sometime ago, about just the INTRO to When Doves Cry.
