To be honest, I couldn't stand this song when it was released. I STILL don't like it. I was like " What the fuck is Prince doing?". The video was cool. I always identified with Prince when he wore his hair long. Just the song was so...something. I liked parts of the album Lovesexy. "Positivity" Anna Stesia", "I Wish U Heaven", even "Glam Slam" and the title track. But Alphabet Street? Nah....I thought at the time that Prince was biting off of George Micheal's song "Faith". Which was a STRAIGHT bite off of a Cure song. I always dug The Cure but not this.

I remember reading in 89 or so, that there was some meaning as to why Prince called this "Alphabet St." Something to do with the letters in the alphabet and switching them up. Something like that. I was like "Good...glad the cat had something else deeper in mind cuz as it was, it reminded me off of something from Sesame Street."
