Love Shy and it was his best pop album in years but I can't listen to it myself. Not sure why - too polished sounding.

Never really liked it.
The Gold Experience is alright but too sterile sounding. After listening to the powerful live versions of Days Of Wild, Shhh, Gold etc. , the album versions paled in comparison, which is probably one reason why Days Of Wild didn´t make it onto the album. I Hate U was cool, especially the album version, but the other songs didn´t have the same hard punch as the live versions.

The same goes for I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man and a lot of other songs, so I´m not just saying this because TGE came out in the 90s but in general.
Some of his material sounds much better live, and some stuff sounds better as a studio version ( When Doves Cry being an example).

i love all those songs. dolphin is one of my fav prince songs of
all time. now is still nice but it sounds dated, although i have
to listen to it now and again for the "videophone" bit alone lol.

tmbgitw, i never cared for from the start and we march is just a
bit too silly to take it seriously. minus the segues and with an
ounce of other songs "interactive", "days of wild", "rippop", it
would have been an even better album imo.
