I think he wanted to be able to, or wished he could experience the closeness that Susannah shared with Wendy and Lisa, they would all hang out together, and Prince was probably kind of 'left out' at times...  She would run to them when she fell out with Prince, hence the line about 'even if the person that hurt you was me'... I love this song too, and live it's incredible!  | |

One of my all time favorites. The vocals are so intense, heartfelt.
I love the monologue at the end over those weird synths.

i love the line - would ya let me dress ya..(then quickly adds) i mean, help u pick out clothes b4 we go out... apparently the sound engineer Susan Rogers, made a technical error which caused his voice 2 distort on some of the words & she thought he'd throw a wobbly, but he loved the effect | |

I heard that 2 ... I heard/read that he liked the "closeness they had as sisters and he wanted to have the closeness with her. That song defines the relationship between a man and his woman and I use "his" loosely. Peace ... & Stay Funky ...
