I did not like this song that much when I first heard it. It was the first time that Prince sounded like an old man doing funk music and it bothered me. I got over it and eventually Prettyman grew on me but it took a long while before it did. I think the Rave In2.. version helped me dig it more than I did with the Rave Un2 one. With many a Prince song, extended versions can make all the difference in the world.  [Edited 6/26/08 9:19am] I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. A great birthday memory for me, he came over to London and did a Chris Evans show in London, played two tracks live including Prettyman.
Actually made me Like Larry's bass playing again, so don't diss him. Love this song, and he gets so say the line 'MACEO CAN YOU BLOW', and as he said, it don't get funkier than that. Didn't have Maceo that night though,cost me a big argument with my ex wife, but hey she's my EX wife, and I had a good night | |
