As perfect a pop song as has ever been written imo. Timeless melodies. Of all of Prince's songs that were big hits in the 80s this is the one I still go out of my way to listen to. Never gets old. And the middle part where P sings "Rain sounds so cool when it hits the barn roof....." is unreal. What a great change. Love what they do with the string orchestral instrumentation. Wonderfully complex but still accessible. Have special love for the 12 inch version too. Love that cough. lol Video kicks ass too. Wendy & Lisa need a big shout out for their contributions to this classic. Thanks you girls and especially thank you Prince.
the music knows what your motives are when you are making it

Inspired The Lighning Seeds with their choice of name - even if they misheard the lyric.
"You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."
