Back in the day his biggest cheers were always for the not often played songs...
I remember the shiffers he sent down my spine when he whipped out She's Always In My Hair AND Irressistible Bitch AND The Beautiful Ones during ONE concert... And I love the stunned feeling of an audience when he plays something new. The way he rocked Het Paard with a few amazing covers (not the standard GCS jam-bladibla) and jaw dropping good new songs. And I can still remember him playing Come live way before the album was released... that pound in my tummy....

It would be intense if he played Electric Chair, Automatic ( ) and Sweet Baby. I creamed my pants when he sung that over the beat of Xenophobia during the 2002 Parisian sound check.

Id just prefer it if he did more songs from the album he was promoting. You know like 4 or 5 songs. I know he did perform a set featuring 5 songs from PE at an aftershow but youre lucky to get that in a concert setting. The Musicology album was barely touched on its relevant tour. I think an accoustic set instead of a piano set would be much more preferable too. Theres a lot of the older stuff i don't care if he ever performed again. Gold would be a great closer or even bring out Anna Stesia again that really worked in 2002. The ONA tour was really fantastic. [Edited 6/24/08 21:16pm]

Bambi(if he wasnt a JW) [Edited 6/24/08 21:16pm] Actually, Prince plays Bambi quite often. So, I guess him being a Witness doesn't really affect him wanting to play the song or not. Anyway, the songs I'd want to hear him do are... Electric Chair Family Name I'm Yours Lady Cab Driver Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

and u got that right!!! here's a new setlist 4 him ... DROP THE 80'S MATERIAL AND CONCENTRATE ON THE MATERIAL PAST THE HITS/BSIDES AND EVERYTHING WILL B FINE man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

i've pretty much come to terms with them since he does chance them on occasion and spices them up in different ways. but why not introduce the public to some other classics by sly and gcs? they have many more truly classic songs that prince could have an awful lot of fun with on stage. i like how he would do m'lady and gcs had other songs as well besides the jam and release urself it would b great 2 tackle "water", "now can u handle it" man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Or is he really a compliant person who plays what he thinks will make people happy? It must be difficult in a sense because he does have two audiences however i think his main audience are the hardcore nuts like us folks on here and housequake. I think thats why many of us prefer aftershows because i believe its Prince doing what Prince really wants to do. Main shows almost seem like a job to him but its the aftershows where he truly gets musical satisfaction. For me a good setlist for a recent tour would feature the following Planet Earth Guitar Somewhere Here On Earth One U Wanna C Chelsea Rodgers Resolution Musicology A Million Days(think he could really crank this up) Call My Name Reflection 3121 The Dance Thats just stuff from the last three albums id like to hear and the rest older choices. Theres music there that holds up pretty well. To answer the thread question the three songs id go nuts for would be. There's really only one song I want to hear live before I die - and that's When You Were Mine. All the verses...with a nice guitar bit in the middle.
Yeah, I know he's played it recently - but not with any consistency. He needs to put it in regular rotation for awhile. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Prince would have to do a smaller, more intimate tour similar to the One Nite Alone shows in order to do a lot of the songs you all are requesting. Face it, when you do large shows, you're going to get a lot of casual fans, and all they want to hear are the hits. They get restless and sometimes rude when you pull out newer or more obscure material. The Gold tour is a great example of this. The ONA tour is probably my favorite because he highlighted the current album (TRC), and basically did whatever he wanted to do onstage.
