Apollonia is very pretty name.

And besides, no matter what you name your kid, other kids will find something to make fun of it about. Kids are clever little bastards. They're so mean, sometimes.

But I thought Apollonia is her real name: Patricia Apollonia Kotero. I wanted something very unique and different, the more weirder the better! But I would hate for my daughter to have the nickname "Apple Bologna"....kids can be so mean. And it would have taken a looooong time to teach her how to write her name.....maybe moms had a good point hmmm

Apollonia is not her real name. Prince named her that. Just like he named Vanity, Diamond, Pearl, Carmen Electra, etc. - and came up with approximately a gazillion different names for himself.
Carmen?
I didn't know that. eek

Wait...wait...I'm kind of a newbie.
Tell me...
Did Prince MAKE Carmen Electra?
I know he dealt with her...but...
*I think I'm gonna throw up, now*

While Prince may not have totally made Carmen Electra, his one lasting legacy is her stage name. Her given life name is TARA Patrick, not TERA like the porn star. Since Carmen's album fell by the wasteside in 93, she somehow had enough smarts, charisma or charm to stay in the game long after she was done with P, love her or hate her, she has a career to speak about because of her stage name. As for Apollonia, her given name is Patricia.

Okay. I know a Prince and Apollonia.

I went to school with a girl named Apollonia. (and she looked NOTHING like her). Damn near fell out in class the first day when the teacher was doing the roll and called out "Apollonia".

And the "Prince" worked at a local restaurant. Once again, looked nothing like the man. But he was a nice guy.

I don't think I'd name my kid after Prince, but I always said if I got a dog, I'd name him Prince and give him a purple collar. biggrin

I also know a guy named Philip Michael Thomas. (hand to God, that's his name!)
I love a Man who:

I named my toy poodle "Oliver" -- From "Oliver's House."

My license plate says "17 Dayz." You can imagine how many questions I get on that. I always feel like a dork explaining it and am considering getting a regular plate. It seemed like such a fun idea when I first bought my car last year.

My son is called Christopher. I suspect that I was influenced by both Prince (the character Christopher Tracey) and Christopher Walkern (my favourite actor), but the truth is I just went through boys names in my head while sitting on a bus, and Christopher sounded good with his surname!

A girl would have been named after my Mum - Sarah. I think it's possible to do a "six degrees of separation" game with alot of people's names, e.g. my name is Maxine - I also get called Max - the song "The Max" - written and performed by Prince.

Then again, maybe not!

Prince got the name "Apollonia" from "The Godfather" anyway, so people
might think that's where you got the name from (particularly if you happened
to have an Italian surname). Non-Prince fans would be far more likely to make
this connection than a Prince one imo.

The Apollonia from the Godfather movie is probably more well known than the Apollonia from Purple Rain..or is she, I have no idea. Anyway, you should have chosen your babys name yourself. I wouldnt name my kids after Prince.

I thought about Princess for my girl but that just sounded too royal and uh prissy LOL! But it is a thought....just don't wanna sound conceited or have anyone think that I am. That's why I came up with LaPrincia----it's still in there.....just subtle. My aunt had a poodle named Prince in the 80s....can't remember if he was white or black, maybe it was mixed? She's a big Prince nut too.
I wanna b ur fantasy and maybe u could be mine!

Do you have anything Prince-name related? I like the names Vanity and Apollonia for twins, I think it's cute and different!

You can always change your daughter's name. Apollonia is great for a middle name. If you want a Prince name, what about "Nadeara." Org me if you want the details. Nadeara Apollonia Or Susan Apollonia (Susan for Susan Moonsie of Vanity/Apollonia 6--Susan WAS Prince's girlfriend when they were in high school)

I begged my best friend to name her daughter Princess after Prince and my nickname in high school, and she said "Heeeeellll NO!" But, Princess is one of her middle names. I'm happy the name was included on the birth certificate! Why don't you name your daughter Princess?

Princeton is a cool male name. I may have to borrow that from you.

This is a very interesting post on names and all, but I wanted to ask: how could Prince and Susan Moonsie possibly have dated in high school when she was only in her mid-teens at the onset of Vanity 6's success? I remember this era very clearly, and much of the controversial press surrounding the group at the time was based on Susan being a 16-17 year old prancing around in that white teddy.

That was a lie. She's Prince' age. They just played up how young she LOOKED to get attention/ spice it up.

Just like how Prince's 21 year old ass told Dick Clark he was, what? 19 on Bandstand.

My whole family was dead set against it, even my mom and aunt who are huge Prince fans. Every time it came up my mother said "everyone will call her Apple Bologna and make fun of her....you don't want to do that" blah blah blah! So I wanted to name her Apollonia so bad that it was either that or Tondalaya and nobody cared for that. I couldn't even pick a name after she was born. I was so stuck that the last day in the hospital the nurses told me if I didn't name her that they would because they needed something on the birth certificate. So my mom had to name her what she wanted and I hate it! I will take that to the grave with me! It makes me sick to think about it, I sooooo wish I would have named her Apollonia! But, I decided I will try to get pregnant again in a few months and I'm sure I will have another girl and I WILL name her either Apollonia or LaPrincia. Or if it's a boy Princeton. I'll be damned if someone tries to go over my head this time. So take it from me NEVER LET ANYONE NAME YOUR CHILDREN BECAUSE YOU WILL REGRET IT!

Do you have anything Prince-name related? I like the names Vanity and Apollonia for twins, I think it's cute and different!

Never let any one tell you what to do.. that is up to you and your spouse...

We don't have kids yet.. but we are trying to adopt..
If we get a boy, his name will be Anthony Prince If its a girl it will
be Cassandra June (CJ ~ and also June for Princes Birth Month)

We also have a dog named Orion, Another dog named Lolita
3 cats. Jamie Starr, Camille and Uptown

5 birds. Seven, Zannalee, Thunder, Gemini and Violet..

Everyone loves our "princely names".. smile
