it seemed like, at his peak, everytime prince did double albums, they were some of the best music he ever did, and i know most people think SOTT was prince at his best. but i think if dirty mind and controversy were a double album, it would have been even bigger than 1999 or SOTT, What do you guys think?

I disagree. One of the things that makes Dirty Mind genius (as far as I'm concerned) is its rougher, more demo-like feel. Had it been made into a double album, it would have lost a huge part of its charm. It would have become a fully developed album and totally lost its "drop it like its hot" character.

Not to mention the fact that, had these two albums been combined, it would've been two years between Dirty Mind and 1999, and another two years between 1999 and Purple Rain - which would've completely blown Prince's budding reputation as an uber-prolific, latter-day Mozart.

And no way in hell does Let's Work belong in between Head and Sister.

Either way...The music is fantastic.

I like things they way they turned out, I don't even want to imagine what the music videos would have turned out like?

I'm gonna have to agree with this comment here. "Dirty Mind" to me was like a Punk album: short, sweet, badass, aggressive, controversial, and to the point. All in a span of a half hour. "Controversy" was more of a Post-Punk album, expanding and experimenting on the previous New Wave/Funk sounds. They're both awesome, but they work better on their own.

But if you're in that desperate need of putting these albums together, then the closest thing you'll get is the 2-in-1 cassette version that WB put out years ago:

I disagree with you about Sign Of the Times being Prince at his peak. I think Prince's career has been a series of peaks, with the last peak being around The Rainbow Children, and in fact, just as authentic as his sex persona. Religion and spirituality have always been a big part of Prince's music, and he has pretty much always used "good vs. evil/nice vs. naughty" as his main theme. But his fans have always concentrated more on the naughty side.

Absolutely. That there is the big reason I loved it in the first place. I was totally into New Wave when that album came out and Dirty Mind just fit right in with where I was musically at the time.
