DO U think that the DREAM FACTORY or CRYSTAL BALL albums would've been better than sign o' the times? i feel that the dream factory album would've been a classic. i think sign o' the times probably ended up being the right move musically. i just wonder how the dream factory or crystal ball projects would've captured the publics attention. I believe that SOTT was comercially best choice - Crystal Ball and Dream Factory and Camille album would have been too much for the wider public. For fans - of course more realeased songs from that period would have been amazing. But most of the material has been released now.

All three albums would have been Prince crowning achievements. However, Camille would have done fine on it's own with only 9 songs, which by the way I think is better than the Black Album. Crystal Ball in it's original 1987 form to me is the best thing that should've come out, but like Prints said everything has been released. It gave a glimps of the true greatness Prince reached at the time in his career. He was at his rawest, creative best at this time between mid 1986 to 1989! __________________________________________________

I don't know the answer, but I see you're obsessed with Sign O' The Times being a "masterpiece" and that Prince never had anything like that ever again.

Crystal Ball would have been his next hit, not so sure about Dream Factory, just cuz of the way it starts out - Visions and Train are not the typical way that Prince started his albums, and they might not have led the listeners down the right path.

It gets asked often, and I always say SOTT was the best way for CB to go. I think the 3 LPs of CB would've been looked upon as way too much music, and the title track as pompous and masturbatory.
However, DF would've made a fine follow-up to Parade and an excellent farewell to The Revolution era.

Dream Factory would have been a great release in my opinion, but I'm not sure where that would leave SOTT...

it happend the way it should have happend tho the original configuration of CB is better than the released version of it man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Here is the strange thing. As mentioned before the overlap what songs would have been removed? What would have been the final product on each? Would there ever have been a Sign Of the Times? There are so many questions to truly answer this one.
