I am tallying up the results, but the preliminary results suggest the org is evenly divided on this one.

The only time I've heard Prince talk of retirement age (jokingly) was in 1986 at the MN Music Awards when he accepted an award for Life Time Achievement(??) or some similar very high honor.

He gave a very playful acceptance speech, saying:

"Wow, this is something you get when you're 65 and retired. I wrote a song once where I said, "I don't care to win awards". (laughs) And It was real easy for me to say that then cause, uh...I wasn't up for any!
(Laughs) But seriously, I just want to let you all know that the awards from you mean the most. Cause I know, I know when the dream factory in Los Angeles runs out, (playful voice) I can come back and hang out with you all for a little while!"

Of course 65 probably seemed like a LONG way off when he was 28! lol

A hallucination in the broadest sense is a perception in the absence of a stimulus. In a stricter sense, hallucinations are defined as perceptions in a conscious and awake state in the absence of external stimuli and that have qualities of real perception in that they are vivid, substantial, and located in external objective space. --Wikipedia

The man has worked his ass of since he was 18 years old, touring, and recording almost every year. Im exhausted for him!
I dont think he has anymore new great music in him anyway.
I hope he takes a good long rest, maybe even calling it quits.
He cant go on forever like this. It would be cool if he finds a nice place to rest, let his hair down, stop wearing makeup and get fat watching tv, i could picture him sitting on an old sofa chair wearing a tomato stained muscle shirt, with his wig and cheetos tossed on the floor somewhere.

Thats me
what do you guys think?

Absolutely not. Prince will be dead in that grave before that happens. The only one(s) who should "retire" are those who feel like Prince hasn't done a good let alone great CD for the last 10 and more years.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

C'mon guys retirement is not a bad thing, its something we all look forward to! right?

People who are in regular every day jobs look forward to retirement. There are a small number of people on this planet who actually find their calling...who are actually doing what their are "made" to do.

These people don't retire...they keep doing what they do until they can't anymore.....

Nah. I don't think his book's been written yet. There's still a few chapters left.

I think it's still pretty exciting being a fan of Prince's music, he still comes up with the unexpected and takes all kinds of twists and turns. smile

highfive brother!!

just because in ur opinion there hasn't been any good music since the 80's doesn't mean that there hasn't been 2 others.

so perhaps the question shouldn't b "should prince retire" it should b when will the people that long 4 the 80's 2 come around again retire?
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I cant ever see Prince retiring...and definitely not retiring in that lazy "waiting around 4 death" kinda way confused He just got the RRHOF award in '04...so many people thought he was over back then...he has so much left in him. If thats your standard then so many other talented people need 2 retire because theyve been around so long 2 rolleyes.

Well , thank god Prince is in good shape and loves touring becasue only one of you other than me thought it would be a good idea for him to retire.
You guys aint having it.

Touring is hard ass work even for guys in their 20's

sooo by a landslide and a couple of nerdy fam pic postings, the answer is NO
the number were so high against, you would think that this was a Prince fan club or something,

He's pretty much in semi-retirement as we speak. Not touring - no proper tour since 2004 (only 2 residencies, the Tamar mini-tour and some one-off shows), no web presence and he has phoned in the last 2 albums with bugger all marketing.

So is this permanent? Is he stalling until next year and a deal with LiveNation or do we have to wait for him to piss away all the Musicology Tour cash before things pick up again?

a real musician sees touring as a piece of cake, not work .. if u love something, it's not work.. anyway, The Rolling Stones are doing it, so Prince can too.. piece of cake... (ive never toured, no, but ive spent hours in the studio recording(and performed in different clubs every week) and I LOVE it... 14 hours recording.. piece of cake)

prince hasn't done a spirited work since TRC. musicology was bland, 3121 was overrated, and the planet earth album was been there and done that. i want him 2 go in a new direction. prince should just be that quirky motherfucker once again! cool

AMEN!!!!! James Brown died in a hospital saying, I'll be out to perform on New Years Eve! Musicians don't retire, they die doing their craft! Thank God the Rolling Stones are still performing and they are 13 years older than Prince.

And Prince doesn't work constantly! I haven't seen him in concert since last September in London. His last tour! So as far as I'm concerned Prince has been relaxing for the past nine months. Coachella was an adrenaline rush for him, he needed that fix of people cheering him on as much as we need to see him live in concert.
