Prince & The Time: how much of "Morris" is Morris???

Just watched an old SNL rerun w/ The Time performing "Chocolate" (w/ George Steinbrenner hosting). Had I never heard Prince's version (or demo, whatever) of the song I wouldn't even trip. BUT I have, so I can't help but wonder: just how much did Prince shape the Morris Day persona?

Put it into a percentage - 80%? 90? 100??? Did Prince tell him exactly what to do, down to the facial expressions? Morris even let out a VERY Prince-like scream (IMO) - is he just an actor playing a part here?

Is there any Morris in "Morris"??? confused
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

I'm sure they both had input into the "Morris" character with Prince having the most pull of course. Morris probably had some of those traits in him & Prince just made him turn the volume way up on the stage/film/records.

Morris obviously enjoys that persona because he's still doing it years after breaking away from Prince. It does seem to make him a decent living & he probably has a lot of fun with it.

r

Morris is Morris and Prince just used his voice during demo recordings.
To get the feel.

And then it turned out he's rather good at it.
That is Prince; a good thief.

I love to hear him perform song in that TRICKY voice.
He did it at the Bataclan aftershow and I just smiled.

Morris was being himself. Down to that annoying laugh. I still don't forgive you Morris for getting me kicked out of the Ballet so how does "Swan Lake" end? My father was so angry I thought it was slightly funny.Only question what possessed you and Prince to throw Popcorn at me?
sorry if that was over your head...jump up and try to catch the point next time.

prince created everything.listen to "Do Yourself A Favor" orany other number of demos and outtakes.Listen to The Family's "Mutiny" and how he laideverything for Paul Peterson and at the end did that Morris?Jamie Starr voice thang. Prince's falseto is credited as "various girlfriends" or some such on "Cool",etc. Then check out som of Jesse's stuff and how he copied Prince's Morris/Jamie voice on some thangs.Prince was hyper creative.

100%.Morris said so back in 85 on a Interview. He said He really wasn't like He is presented as being but Prince called all the Shots.in fact the dancing, clothes&Voice were all Prince's Ideas.Andre Cymone also had a hand in it but Prince overtook the full concept.Prince flipped the Morris Concept on Shelia E as well&other Protege's.Words,Music&Image all go hand&Hand with Prince.

I think Morris also borrowed some of his material from Comedians, I can see a little bit of Richard Pryor in him too.
