Prince Live Aid what could have been

I really really wish prince would have played the live aid concert in england at wembley arena because I think he would have stolen the show. Its well documented that queen stole the show that year but I think if prince had played he would have blown them away, and dont get me wrong Queen are a great Live Band and Freddie mecury was a brilliant showman but I think Prince would have still took the crown. I think one of the main reasons he didnt is because it would have been a pretty exclusively rock based crowed and as we know he had a bad experience with supporting the rolling stones and I think it might have put him off.

What do you think?

I think it happened over 20 years ago and doesn't matter.

Frankly, I like that Prince doesn't participate in things like Live Aid, Live Earth, and that type of nonsense. Those concerts accomplish nothing except raising the visibility of the artists who perform. They're able to pat themselves on the back and hold themselves up as paragons of virtue - and people continue to starve (or whatever).
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

No, I don't think it was anything to do with that, all that was waaay in the past by then - you're right Prince would have blown everyone away, and HE and probably everyone else knew that too! He just doesn't like doing things 'en masse' lol He's always done things HIS way, on his own terms, I think that's all it was!

No, it really didn't. Very little of that aid actually got to the people who really needed it due to the political situation in Ethiopia at the time.

I was way too young to even remember the concert, but wasn't it the case that the Wembley show suffered from really bad technical problems with the sound??

The story I'd heard was that it only seemed to work correctly for Queen, who added to that by being brillian on the night.
So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

Really? Didn't Run DMC play that event? What about Patti LaBelle? Or Billy Ocean? or even Sade? I wonder what kind of reception they got.

The point is, I don't think the event was exclusively a Rock concert even if the majority of acts played that event. Prince would've been an amazing addition, especially considering he was still the most popular artist in music at that time. They wouldn't have given him the same kind of reception he got when touring with the Stones in '81. He would've rocked Live Aid's world.

But I'm fine with what ended up happening. We saw a cool video by the man, and that was what he had to offer.

an

He had just announced that he was quitting touring and "looking for the ladder" so he gave them the video for "4 The Tears In Your Eyes" instead which was only played that one time during the broadcast.

Prince has soooo many 'could have been' moments. On balance he's done just fine.

Prince was asking people to bring canned goods to his shows to help the hungry long before "Mercedes Aid" or any of those Self-congratulatory fests.

i remeber reading an interview of i think bob geldof, and he said that prince's people said to try ringing the studio at a certain time, and if prince happened to be passing the phone, that he might pick up.

it was basically too hard to contact him according to what i read.

as we know though it might not be true.

In the meantime we are just happy he plays Rock In Rio, Las Vegas and Coachella for the quick buck. I mean, Prince really stands for something; always has!

That word would make the buzzer go off indeed.

The actual answer is "We're Only In It To Be Able To Do Teenage Puertorican Girls".

Diclaimer* That link isn't safe here on The Family Hour.

So, I'll describe it for you.

It's a cartoon character featured in the early MGM cartoons named Little Lupe'.

It's really boring and you wouldn't gain anything mentally enriching from it.

As Ray Stevens said: "Don't look Ethel."

I was just unscoring YOUR statement with a visual reference.

And I quote:

"The actual answer is "We're Only In It To Be Able To Do Teenage Puertorican Girls".

I was trying to do like Family Guy where after a statement they roll a visual clip.

On another thread you said something about sucking being an art.

Man, do you know how many visual references could have been put with THAT?

But it's kewl.

And for those of you who call people tossers you can toss THIS.

It's only humor folks. Speculating on something that might have been is foolish anyway.

No offense meant by taking your thread in a dumb direction.

Prince would have been great at Live Aid but he did things in his own way that were more effective.

And before these various events for Charity he was asking people at his concerts to bring canned foods and winter clothing to help the homeless in each city.

If you listen to Hello it says the truth that charity begins at home.
