Not often, but it's usually coming from MY car! A while back I had my car cleaned while I was in the supermarket and when I came back the guy cleaning it had my one of my 'rare' London cd's playing at full blast!! I was like 'do you like my music?' grinning, and he was like 'Yeah!!'

Hardly. Totally opposite in the 80's though. In the summer of 84, you couldn't FIND a car that WASN'T playing Pirnce. Sometimes in Westwood or on Hollywood Blvd during the summer where it was really popular to ride around in cars, u could easily hear 4 or 5 cars at the same time playing either Let's Go Crazy, When Doves Cry or Erotic City. O.g.'s like myself bumped the shit out of tracks like Let's Work, Lady Cab Driver, or Controversy. Still to this day, I bump the Controversy or 1999 album in my car. I remember it like it was yesterday.
18 years ago, I was in a cab headed to the airport to fly home from college. It was about 6am in the morning. This Le Baron pulls up at the red light. My man (big dude) was over 40, shades on, with the gangster lean, blasting "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?" That's the way you rock P in the ride. Yeah, that's true. Back in the day everyone did play Prince, and you're right as you said,in the summer of '84 you couldn't find a car that wasn't. That's cool that you play some Prince in your ride today..and that was really what I was curious about.. How often do you hear it being played today,in 2008? I was out yesterday and a guy gave me a grin when i pulled into a local convenient store with 1 of my mix cds blaring and I was pondering to myself if he was thinking i was trapped in a time warp or something. I really don't care if he did..It is just something I've been curious about and thought to ask you folks here, cause maybe you've all wondered the same thing. follow the leader follow the leader

Never. But I live in Sweden, not precisely a hot bed for Prince music. But I have made compilations of Prince tracks many times and listened to them while I'm out driving. For some reason "Acknowledge Me" is a great car driving song.

Never encountered that.
But the other day I was playing my Prince CD in the store, (the B-sides, I think) and a guy walked in and he looked impressed that we were playing Prince for some reason, thought that we were cool.

I always blast P when I'm out driving. The only time I get a few weird looks is when people hear "Little Red Corvette" coming out a mustang

That's funny you should have a bumper sticker that says: "My other car is a Little Red Corvette"...

Usually it's the other way around, I'll be blasting Prince and other people will look at me and smile.
A couple weeks ago I returned a rented car and just as I got out of the car Raspberry Beret came on the radio. I was kinda seat dancing a little bit and the car rental guy started laughing. I turned the car off and when he got in the car he turned it back on (to get the mileage). He left the car running with the song playing until the end of the song. True.

when i lived in columbus, georgia in the late 80's and early 90's, i heard prince all of the time from cars, and from my neighbors apt. too! diamonds and pearls cd was always coming out of the neighbors place! i also recall seeing a car with plate DMSR driving around the neighborhood alot! i was still a kid, and just starting to become a fan of prince at the time, and i thought all of it was awesome. my parents on the other hand hated the loud prince music from the neighbors.

Thanks to everyone. & I think there was a rule in the City of Memphis that the radio stations had to play "Soft and Wet" at least 3 times a week, because every time I went there, it was on the radio. "Adore" makes its way onto a lot of "quiet storm" playlists as well. Other than that, I agree with you. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
