How many of you cop that line when you say you like a particular artist/group that don't sound anything like Prince?!

So im supposed to not like Metallica cuz i own Sign O The Times???

people usually take it the other way around. it's more like:

"but you like bowie and talking heads and sonic youth! how can you be a PRINCE fan?!?"

at this point in my life i just ignore people who can't see beyond a limited, labelized, either/or view of the world. if they can't wrap their minds around the fact that i like what i like and demographics be damned, then the problem's not mine to fix.

I love all types of music from pop to oldies, gospel, salsa, calypso, rock. I love it all.

I have found that no matter what non Prince show I go to, I will bump into a Prince fan. Prince fans tend to have diverse musical tastes.

a lot of people don't know i like Prince, but they know i like musicals. i think they're surprised when they find out i like something not theatre-related.

When I was younger a bunch of people thought it was funny that I liked Prince & Motley Crue. Apparently, a couple of other girls liked them both too (Vanity, Mayte).

no-one is ever suprised about my music taste.. they just roll their eyes and don't let me near the stereo at parties
The first time was for cranking out elvis at a party when i was 14
Now it's Dolly Parton, Patsy cline, Tom Waits, Alice Cooper, Timbaland, Prince, Beatsie Boys, Bowie, expermental jazz, dave graney, k.d. lang etc that gets me into trouble... its isn't the artists themselves, just the unpredicatability of what is coming next

I get that all the time. What can I say? I love music. If it sounds good, I'll listen.

The one I get that comment for? Backstreet Boys. Especially considering Seniorita PurplePant's whole "real music by real musicians" thing. Hell with that, I'll listen to who I want.

Besides, without Backstreet Boy's, I'd have never been introduced to Prince in the first place. And that's a fact. ;nod:
