There actually was a picture on HQ...but it got deleted from the person's photobucket.
It was just a normal metal door with some ugly ass mardi gras looking mask on it.

It does exist. It was on view at the first Celebration. Just a room with a metal door... but then, there's magic deteriorating past it's half-life in that damn room. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Did it have the ugly mask on it when you saw it?

This was just rediscussed a month or two ago....
Here we go.... I saw it when I was on tour of Paisley Park. I was surprised by it's location because it was down by the garage that Sexy MF was filmed in. When you first go in to the lobby of Paisley Park there is a stair case that goes up (the stair case pictured in Emancipation booklet) and next to it there a stair case that goes down a floor to a garage. There was also a hallway down there and that is where the vault was. It was just a big silver door like you see in the movies. There was a long room next to it with probably 100 or more guitars. There were pictures of women (poster style) on the walls every few feet in between the hanging guitars. The tour guide said the reason for the pictures is because Prince loves two things: Woman and guitars (or something like that). He mentioned the famous Vault where all his music is stored but the important masters for the songs like When doves Cry and Purple Rain are stored somewhere else. He asked a trivia question about the garage we walked into and I was the only one who got the answered right....Sexy MF video was filmed there (remember where the police came in at the end...that is where we were standing). I am not 100% sure about the location but I am 99.9% (I'm going off of memory from 2001). I remember I thought the location was really weird... why is down here? The tour guide also showed us his tropy case in the lobby and he went on and on about how Prince doesn't like awards and blah blah but then he kept pointing out the Oscar and the Grammy's ... why was the case brought to the front then???? Any Way ... we went through the studio's, weight room, basketball court/dance area (which was really small / 1/2 court) and the play room. It was a cool tour. got to sit on the floor in studio A and listen to Rainbow children before it was released. Paisley Park is a lot smaller (or poorly designed) then it looks from the outside. JMO ... not knocking it....I bet you it would be different if he deigned it today.... Oh yeah... his old white cadie limo was in the garage, the white emancipation BMW was there, the BWM from Gangster Glam was there but it was painted gold. The windows on the white BMW were tinted so dark that I had my face pressed against the glass and I couldn't see nothing. Just a little in site of a day in Prime's life at Paisley Park Prime aka The Kid

Just a little in site of a day in Prime's life at Paisley Park Thats a cool insight! For some reason I expected the vault to be in some inner sanctum! I never go to go around the building. The day I turned up I was unannounced, I walked in like I owned the place and actually blagged my way past security, but Prince and the band were in the lobby/stair bit in on the right listening to the days recrding of Come. Prince had a word with me, had a bit of a chat, then said sorry and personally had me evicted. I felt so cheap! It was the nicest .

OH GOD... my sides hurt! I'm not laughing at the fact that he has a weightroom, i'm laughing because of the way Tora responded. [Edited 4/20/08 17:54pm]

There's just something so cool about having a vault.
But is that picture above really it? That's one ugly-ass vault. And it could use a little buffing too; that thing's really smudgy.

Thanks for the photos. It is not at all what I would have thought. The mask does no justice. A little more simplistic for all his hard work to be stored. But, it is still cool to finally see. Thanks again.

I guess you don't have to star in, "The Real McCoy, " to know that if, "The Vault ," is near the garage...It would be easy to get it out of there. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

So there's a real vault? I thought it was just a figure of speech to describe where he "keeps" the unrealeased stuff. Like a joke or turn-ofphrase thing. I didn't think there was a literal vault. Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

So, why do everybody own unreleased material if said material is to be kept there under lock and key?
