Most songwriters work goes downhill after they reach 40 and IMO prince is no exception but which is for you his greatest work since turning 40?

Here are you choices.

1. Crystal ball
2. The Truth
3. The Vault old friends for Sale
4. Rave Un2 the joy fantastic
5. The Rainbow Children
6. One Night Alone
7. One Night Alone Live
8. It Aint Over
9. Xpectation
10. Cnote
11. News
12. The chocolate Invasion
13. The slaughter House
14. Musicology
15. 3121
16. Planet Earth

Ill go with the Truth everytime!!

I've never heard Xpectation or C-note...And I would agree that, "The Truth.." is wonderful...however..."The Rainbow Children." is one of those albums in a class by itself. I really enjoy the concept of a story album...especially, one as cool as that...

I disagree with Prince's work going downhill after reaching 40 years of age. I believe a majority of people, including Prince review their lives, or see things differently at this stage of life. Some aspects of one's life become more important or centralized and therefore the direction changes. I've enjoyed all of Prince's work, however; if you would like me to choose one cd from that list that is his "greatest" since that point I would select "The Rainbow Children." It is the beautiful black sheep of the family. Many people dislike this cd but to me it encompasses more of that jazzy feeling than his previous work combined with an insight into his journey/discovery of his religious beliefs...it's a masterpiece from beginning to end.

Second choice of mine would be "The Truth"!

I think his live performances have become amazing (and unrivalled) since he turned 40 but when I look at the CD list above, I have to admit there isn't much there that inspires me.

I'd have to vote for "One Night Alone", because I love how Prince plays the piano.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

What's most surprising to me is that I still can't choose one. I love ONA, The Truth, TRC, 3121, and Musicology. I haven't heard The Chocolate Invasion, C-Note, The Slaughterhouse, or Xpectation. neutral
