Also around that time period, before got into The Time and Prince, I recall purchasing albums on cassette by L.L. Cool J, C&C Music Factory, Faith No More, Snap and Paula Abdul. All of that music really zaps me back to that time period in my life. Sure, some of it is probably considered cheesy, but it's what surrounded my teenage years really.
Of course several years later groups like Nirvana and Pearl Jam and Soundgarden blew up and I got way into that, but all along Prince was played way more than any other in my tape deck.

Also, if anyone knows where I can find a copy of Bobby Brown's "Dance... Ya Know It" remix album on CD, I would be in eternal youthful bliss!
Oh wait, it's 2008 and ebay exists... nevermind!

I listened to a lot of different stuff - The Cars, The Knack, Michael Jackson, Earth Wind and Fire, Bruce Springsteen.
I also listened to a lot of classical. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I was real young when i first started liking Prince. Like 6.
Before then, like 4-5 I remember that my ears perked up when ever I heard Sly & The Family Stone on the radio, especially Hot Fun In The Summertime. So Im guessing Sly Stone

Donna Summer. The "Bad Girls" album was out and she was all over the album cover standing on the street corner leaned up against the light post. When I discovered Prince, I dropped one whore for another one.

He was my second favorite. I think the reason I liked Prince more is because he had more in common with me. He was gay as hell and was a mean ole bitch. Andy is a four letter word.

But I don't think Prince was mean back then he was shy and nasty. He was just a 19 yr old kid. [Edited 6/16/08 15:22pm] [Edited 6/16/08 15:23pm]

I never really had a favorite artist before Prince. I had artists that I liked but I wouldn't have called them my favorites. Prince is the first and last artist I will ever call my favorite.

. . . [Edited 6/16/08 14:17pm] RFLMAO Donna Summer was the closest I came to being a fan of anyone's. I loved Bad Girls but for me she was Giorgio Moroder's vessel for his music, so she could only go so far with me. I knew who Prince was from 'Soft & Wet' but I became a fan Nov. 7, 1979 and have never had anyone threaten to come close to Prince. Prince knew what I was thinking and we grew real tight. I am a big sports fan but no one in the sports world, movie world, or music world has come close to Prince in my head and heart. [Edited 6/16/08 21:00pm] I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

From that day, he got me.

Me too. But not Kenny Rogers. How do you go from him to Prince. I am not seeing that path. I was in high school just after Thriller was released and Purple Rain came out when I was going into my sophomre year. I was a big fan of both. I am over MJ now Peace. Love. Prince
