Most TIMELESS Sounding Prince Era/Album!

~∞*∞~

I say, Parade and that whole era...just an undatedable album, in instrumentation, style, lyrically...timeless.

And Sign "O" The Times in music, style and ESPECIALLY message.

No one has really come close to the progressive Funk elements of that album.

The Gold Experience still sounds fresh. Like a great "bridge" album that ties the best of Prince music and style from previous albums to the scarce (and far between) better periods of after that album.

Discuss on.

Timeless? Dirty Mind, 1999, Purple Rain, Parade, SOTT, Lovesexy, prince, TGE, The Rainbow Children

As for sounding timeless- Lovesexy still sounds fresh all of these years later.

Dirty Mind, SOTT, Lovesexy. The Lyrics and music on these must have had some otherwordly inspiration. You can't date them because you can't compare them to anything. Timeless.

Totally agree with ya'll.

Lovesexy probably wins as the most timeless, transcending album.

I still find myself singing the first verse of Glam Slam.

I think it's also at times futuristic in a way.

As far as just trying to date an album is concerned... I think it's pretty hard to put a date on The Rainbow Children's sound. Also, OF4S. His more jazzy cds are harder to assign a year.

Gold Experience is timeless, all but maybe "We March which should have been replaced by Days O' Wild,& Endorphinemachine replaced with the original version of that song, there is a layer of guitar missing in the original (if thats the best way 2 describe it) that just makes that version more ROCK!
SOTT...nuff sed!
TRC,tho not one of my faves, will be looked at in 10/20/30/ 4eva years as a masterful piece of work.

To my ears Lovesexy is one of the most (if not the BEST) remarkable LP-s in the history of pop music.
For sure smile

Definitely Parade. It's so unique in it's approach that you can't tell what era it's from for the most part.

Oddly enough, many of the cuts from his very first CD's (For You and Prince). I think that's because right now, everything 70's is hot again.

I know I'm on a bitchy mood today, but please release the caps lock on your keyboard. It's on the left side. Unless you're holding it the wrong way around.

Anyway. Parade is obivously a rather timeless piece of production, but there are a lot of tracks from the 1991-1994 that still sound like they were (gasp) recorded yesterday. i.e. "Race", "And God Created Woman", "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World", "Pheromone". Give or take a few sounds and arrangements.

Sign "O" The Times, as great as it is, certainly doesn't come off the same way.

I think that when Prince started using , ugh, Rap and , ugh, Hip Hop in his music, he risked having his music really starting to sound dated.

Dirty Mind and 1999 are considered classics. I don't think Diamonds & Pearls and Emancipation will be.

That could be also an explanation why some feel Dirty Mind sounds dated. When Prince uses a very popular sound and makes it really prominent in his music, THAT's when it will sound dated.

But if you listen to his really strange, Prince-ly music, the ones he can only get away with, then it becomes timeless. Like The Rainbow Children, thatt might be timeless. Why? Because Jazz is timeless. But it really is too soon to tell.

Maybe he took on that Punk New Wave thing with Dirty Mind to hard. But still it's a soul/rock album at it's purest.

Also Dirty Mind has that DEMO feel which REALLY makes it sound kinda dated.

That could be said of the first Time album. Cool makes me want to rip the masters off of whoever has them and reproduce that jam at least in 1983 style. I love the song though, just the production seems a little off.

What about Prince style? Clothing, hair, themes, etc.? Anything strike ya'll as timeless in terms of STYLE?

Ugh, ALL of Hip Hop...ugh, ALL of Prince involvement in it.

Well, I likes the early era of Hip Hop. But after all that ganster hoodlum rap...just makes me sick.

When I first heard Gett Off, I though musically it was superbad...but when Prince rapped...my heart just sunk. Then Sexy MF...hooo boy, deep breath!

If you're interested, there are hundreds of extremely talented rappers who don't record "gangster hoodlum rap." That's just all you see on MTV.
