Never in this world.

If Susan Rogers says it was erased then it would have been.

in the d.m.s.r. book,by per neilsen, it was researched that this was prince's most personal song ever. alot of different sources said it was his deepest and best written song ever. prince felt it was 2 heartbreaking 2 put out there.

He sings to Wally ( as in Wally Safford, one of the two dudes who used to hang around with Prince between 1984 and 1988, you know, Wally Safford and Gregory Brooks...from the Sign Of The Times movie...Gregory gets a mention in the song Anna Stesia. They were his bodyguards and dancers at the time). He sings to Wally and hence the name of the song. It is supposedly about his breakup with Susannah Melvoin ( as far as I recall from reading the book DMSR by Per Nielsen). After erasing it, he recorded a second, drastically different version of the song.

That´s all I know about it. Read Per Nielsen´s book, it contains a lot of info about his work in the early to mid 80s.

Just a slight correction...what Per wrote is that Prince recorded the song (which, according to Susan Rogers - who was there - was extremely personal beautiful - the best work she'd ever heard him do), then set about ruining it with additional parts and overdubs. When he was finished, he told Susan to erase the whole thing. She protested and he said, "If you don't erase it, I will."

yes, that´s true, you´re right, but didn´t the book also mention a new and totally different version that he recorded after the overdubbed and erased version?

Yes, the book claims he rerecorded it a few days later with less personal lyrics; making it virtual a different and far less emotive song.
