I guess was doing a press conference about Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic. When a reporter asked the question, "Who would win the fist fight? You or Michael Jackson? said, "I'd plant him. Keep it light, keep it light. Michael's not a fighter, he's a lover."
But then he said, "Can I just say something? I never really spoke publically about Michael. We should all just kind of, like chill. Because it's , you know, he may know something none of us really know. And just like, let's wait and see. Let's wait it out. You know, just WAIT it out. You never know. But you just never know. Ultimately, we all got to come back home. So, let's just make a home for everybody."

I think what he was trying to say he and Mike don't have a rivalry going and the media, and fans need to leave it alone!!!

Also its a plea for people to chill against all the rumors and accusations about child-molestation and all that other stuff that was in the media everyday in the 90's.

You're misquoting what was said.

At the press conference, a "reporter" stood up and asked, "Who would win in a fist fight between you and Michael Jackson?"

Prince busted up laughing and said (of the "reporter"), "He's a plant, y'all. But I planted him." Meaning the reporter was someone known to Prince and the question was a joke.

Then, he said (with a straight face), "Michael's a lover, not a fighter." At which the reporters all cracked up (because this was during the whole MJ pedophilia thing).

Then, Prince stopped and said something about not rushing to judgment because no one really knew the truth about what happened.

How long has this interview been around and it took someone this long to comment on it....maybe ol' Mikey does know something we don't...remember how he was portraying an alien In the movie Men In Black (or was it Men In Black 2? I forget)

If the posted quote is correct, it sounds to me like Prince was addressing not only the molestation charges, but MJ's weirdness overall. Mike's a space cadet, but Prince seems to be giving him the benefit of the doubt: "He may know something none of us really know." Moreover, we shouldn't be so quick to pass judgement on him, but rather be open to a person who will one day need the graces of those who love him: "Ultimately, we all got to come back home. So, let's just make a home for everybody."

I think it was a pretty hospitable statement.

When he said Michael is "a lover and not a fighter". It sounded like a reference to the song "The girl is mine" by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney. Near the end of the song Paul says "We're not gonna fight about this ok?" and Michael responds "Paul, I think I told you, I'm a lover not a fighter"

this has nothing to do with child molestation. it wasnt even said around that time , interview was 1999 and the mj thing was between 2003 and 2005!

Nonetheless, I also don't think Prince was primarily addressing the molestation issue.

I thought it was funny when Chris Rock did the interview w/ P and mentioned MJ being a creepy Peter Pan with the kids. P got up and smiled and pretended like he was walking away.

I think P has respect for MJ as an artist. I never saw a real rivalry between them. Now P and Rick James?..that's for a different thread.
