It's one of Prince's most underrated songs...period. Very cool song from one of Prince's best albums. I just always wished that he had the distorted guitar on the hook a lil' mo' louder in the mix. Those power chords were kickin'. He just had it buried too low. Anybody hip to this female artist from the 80's called "Princess"? She did a remake of this song. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Beautifully constructed song, I love it dearly.
The Minneapolis Sounding group, Princess & Starbreeze, did an awesome cover of the song on their self-titled debut album! http://www.last.fm/user/somebodyunot

I've always liked it. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I bought this album a few months back and put it on without looking at the tracklist, it took good minute or two into the first track before I realised what it was! It is a well done cover. Great original track too of course.

Great original track too of course. That makes two of us. I think it's the intro they tacked on to it. My copy skips like every other track, and unfortunately, that song is riddled with 'em. http://www.last.fm/user/somebodyunot

I never cared much for this song.
It isnt bad, but it could be better melody- and compositionwise. It sounds to me he was trying to produce a sort of AOR midtempo-ballad, a style quite popular in the lately seventies. But the result sounds a bit forced and underdeveloped.

I am in love with this song. I mean so so in love with it. I just play it all the time. It's one of my favoite songs of all time.
(No one toss a brick at me, but I like it more than Purple Rain.) I love a Man who:
Wears More Make Up Than Me. Wears Four Inch Stilleto Boots. Changes His Name To An Unpronouncable Symbol. Who Changes His Name Back From An Unpronouncable Symbol. Oh And Most Importantly, Who Is Sexy Little Drop Of Butterscotch

This is a fantastic song. It's become one of my new favorite songs of P's. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I think it's one of the high points of the album. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I admit, I glazed it over so I wouldn't forget to mention them in my own post. Princess's rendition is the business! The personalized intro she tacked on is a nice touch to an already well-executed tune. http://www.last.fm/user/somebodyunot

Screw 'em, appreciating Prince and someone else within the same context is not a crime, or at least it shouldn't be. http://www.last.fm/user/somebodyunot

But the result sounds a bit forced and underdeveloped. I almost agree with you completely. It doesn't sound underdeveloped, although if Prince had recorded it ten years later, it might have been overproduced. lol I think it's the urgency in Prince's voice, he started as an AOR mid-tempo ballad but ended up on his knees in church. Prince and I cried together endlessly when I lost my boyfriend and girlfriend in the same Valentine's Day weekend! (No, they did not know about each other.) One of my favorite cry/heartbroken songs by anybody. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.
