I notice, i maybe have been a bit too much on a psycho-analistic 'roll' with this thread.... lol

Sometimes that happens, i start typing, and i just can stop. biggrin

I also have put in quite a bit of chargation and sarcasm in the thread, so, i am not dead on 'serious'.

But nonetheless, the argument: You don't know Prince as a person, so you could and should not analyse him this way, i consider a bit farfetched.

I mean, when it comes to peoples reactions here on the lyrics of individual songs, the themes of his albums and a part of his actions, i see quite A LOT of people dealing with aspects that belong very clearly to the psychological / personal realm of Mr. P.

And, when you look at his large body of work (over 30 original CD's, hundreds of concerts, dozens of interviews, some concertmovies, the way he expresses himselves with his clothes and imago), i think its ridicilous to assume, that there is NOT enough of his 'real' personality shining trough to offer some substance for discussion about his deeper motives.
Or, are some of you saying that he is foremost an 'actor', and that his body of work doesn't reflect who he is as a person?

I dont pretend to be Princes shrink (thank god!), but i was thinking about comparisons i was seeing, and was trying to share them for the sake of discussion, nothing more.
I don't see how that is so much different from people analyzing the lyrics of The Rainbow Children, or his relationship with women.

I hear what you are now saying, Riverpoet. Thank you for clarifying. To me, at least, I feel there is reasonable evidence to speculate on deeper motivations regarding P. Everyone does it everyday here. However, on this subject, it felt, to me, that you were approaching the issue from a negative and punishing mindset. I didn't feel, therefore, that it was a safe space for sensitive exploration. Perhaps, some of your sarcasm and humour (un)intentially created a barrier to seeing a balanced picture regarding P's human side...beyond the enigma he likes to create.

For you to be able to think or write a statement such as this about anyone, let alone Prince, smacks of complete ignorance. While there is little denying a semblance of potential similarity between Prince and what you are claiming here, it's nigh impossible to engage in a serious conversation with you given that you are capable of thinking so ignorantly. It is possible, afterall, that what you see in Prince here is, in fact, an unconscious defence against that which you dislike in yourself.

Or, s/he could be right on the money, & you could be a desperate sycophant.

True but extremely narrow views are rarely 'right on the money', viewaskew.
