What could Prince do to get back "ex-fans?"

For all the "former" fans who still frequent on here:

Is there ANYTHING Prince could do to get you back as a "fan?"

Or are his "crimes" unforgivable?

Y'all???

Not exactly my personal opinion but to answer your question
go back in time and dont release anything after the gold experience
then keep everything in the vault until 2005 where we can try albums before we buy them

Well, some people are never happy,
why should anyone cater to them
and themselves be miserable because
you're always trying to please other people?

to me its a no brainer how can you be an ex-fan? either you love the music or you dont.

maybe we should clarify between people who love him as a person and those who ove the music

I've wondered this for years and I don't know if there is anything he can do to win back any fans. When I look around and see all those who have left, especially on this site alone, I wonder if it's even worth it for him to try and get them back. Most of them will just bitch, moan and whine and any one tiny move he makes that could be perceived as negative will be blown out of proportion around here. As long as he stays true to himself with his music, someone somewhere will be a fan of his. If Prince really bothers you with his music or his actions or any other reason, then they need to stop being a fan. Better for them individually and better for us collectively as people who still choose to be fans.

Ex fans are ex fans for a reason. Fans can disapprove of his actions and still love the music. I fall into this category. I find the fiasco of his lawsuit against his fansites a sad commentary on an ego run amok.

WIth that being said though, actions of his over (regading his art) the past few years are troubling. At one time, he was at the front of the web music scene, but he has regressed into a dinosaur in regards to his understanding of the change of the industry.

I understand wanting to be protective of your art and those ideals, but he is making his art inaccessible in some cases (no Crystal Ball 2, omprehensive video collection, a proper live album (material from the 1978-1988 arc), decent boxed sets , etc).

If the art became more accessible, some of the animosity will subside. You can't really fault him being a protector of his art, but in an era where his peers make their music/videos/bootlegs readily accessible without the lawsuits and other bullshit, he is viewed as a man out of touch.

HIs personality is of his own doing, so wishing and wanting him to change that is a moot point. He is a control freak, but it is in his DNA to do what he does, so can't fault him. Still a great musician and his artistry is tops, but to get back ex fans, it depends on how much they were personally invested in him. I only care about the art.

He could try releasing an album on the par with his '80-'87 material. That would solve a lot of problems.

I'm still a fan but I know many ex-fans who dropped him after "Purple Rain". In the late 1980s, he could have easily gotten them all back if he simply went back to his old style and stopped making the retro artsy/fartsy stuff he was making at the time.

Nowadays, it's too late and there's nothing he could do to win them back. Even if he went back to his old style, they haven't kept up with Prince over the years so they wouldn't know it. Also, they are all much older now and don't buy new music from any artists. Most of them are married with children now and have taken a back seat to their kids.

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

absolutely nothing ... believe it or not, Prince 'gains' fans constantly .. so whereas some fan decides to leave.. 3 more people will fill their spot.. he's gonna always have fans... through the good times.. through the bad times.. Prince will always have fans...

He could try actually playing concerts. He hasn't toured since Musicology in 2004.
Since then he's had residencies in London and Vegas, a mini-tour supporting Tamar and a some one-off gigs - mostly near his new base in California - and some private parties.

I don't think Prince really needs to 'run after fans'. As long as he plays great music and stays true to himself/his art, they'll keep coming.

Based on the reaction at Coachella, the O2, his shows in L.A. and Vegas, and his almost concert in Dublin, I'd say he's doing just fine.

It's easy, old fans want nothing better than to have Prince create "great music" again.
Judging from his reception at coachella, that's all he needs, even if it's just performances of covers, just the thrill and enjoyment of the music.

I dont care if he shakes Youtube or "fansites" up a little, someone has to help usher "the future" of the web.
