not touring 4 signo'thetimes was one of the biggest mistakes of his career i could just imagine seeing that great album cover has part of the stage set. that would've been his best tour because of that band and the solid songs on that album. it's 2 bad because the album might've sold another million or so. oh well! That's funny, I could have sworn that I got a DVD of the SOTT tour. RIP

HE NEVER TOURED IN THE U.S. for that album. it was based on his european concert tour. the footage didn't come out to well. he redid most of that concert movie at paisley park. BOB4theFUNK

This thread is weird to me for a number of reasons. One, he did tour, so the basic premise is wrong. He just didn't tour in the U.S. In my view, for Prince not to recognize his global appeal at that time would have been one of the biggest mistakes of his career.
More to the point, though, 20-plus years on, it hardly seems like a mistake; it just seems like one of many decisions he made. Would it have ultimately changed anything important at all if he had toured in the U.S. for SOTT? Would he have more respect or more money or would his place in musical history be any different at all? Sure, he might have sold some more copies of the album, but considering the album had already had a few hit singles and good reviews, it probably wouldn't have made much of a difference.

It didn't seem to hurt him.

i think touring SOTT exclusively in europe is very fitting for that album. it makes sense to me in the scheme of that album's personality, whether prince intended it that way or not.

What personality? you're right. it's a pretty nondescript album.

It was an honest question... cause I really don't know. just look at the cover art and read the lyrics and you're listening to the album and let the whole thing open up for you. i think it has a very distinct personality and ambience, and part of it is kind of left over from 'under the cherry moon' - a very late-night, european, club-hopping kinda vibe, only darker and with more of a conscience about what's happening beyond the club doors. it's almost like prince was coming to europe to talk about the troubles he was seeing in america at that time, and the album's mood kind of facilitated his "state of the union abroad" address. or something like that...

I find Sign O' the times the most serious album he ever made. I'm from Italy, Europe and I'm kind of familiar with the whole feeling of this record. It could be my favorite, but it skipped to the second place, since my number one, curiously, is a more american-felt album, Around the world in a day. But I'm talking poetry here. While Sign O' the times has great lyrics and music, still the feeling of Around the world in a day suits me better. But this is a very personal matter.
